DANA (GENEROSITY)

ana is a Buddhist word that means generosity of heart. It is a direct and heartfelt way of expressing gratitude. It is the foundation upon which the Buddhist tradition rests.

Here at the Waterloo Riverview Dharma Centre we are trying to manifest a commitment to the practice of Dana (generosity) in the following ways:

1. A Gift of WRDC Dana. The Dharma Centre was founded and continues to operate because of the generosity of its community.

Course fees are intentionally kept low to allow for the practice of Dana. Fees cover about half our operating expenses. The Dharma Centre relies on gifts of Dana freely offered throughout the year, and at the Celebration of Giving, to help cover the remainder. Dana to the centre may be placed in the box at the entrance to the office.

2. A Gift of Teacher Dana. Teaching the Dharma is inherently an act of generosity. The teachers at WRDC offer their time, their energy, and their wisdom freely, and are supported only by your gifts of Dana. Dana to the teacher may be offered at weekly classes, individual teacher/student sessions, days of mindfulness, retreats or other special teaching events. Dana for the teacher can be placed in the box located just inside the door of the centre.

3.A Gift of Helpfulness. Sangha members are invited to support the Dharma Centre through volunteer contributions. There are many opportunities throughout the year. Volunteers help to organize retreats and fundraising events, clean the centre, maintain the resource library, serve on the board of directors, and so on. These volunteer efforts help us to keep overall costs down, and foster a sense of community within the Sangha.

4.A Gift of Dharma. The Dharma Centre welcomes everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Our bursary program, supported by your gifts of Dana, makes it possible for all to have access to the teachings. Dana to our bursary program may be offered in the same way as Dana to the Centre, simply include a note indicating that funds should be directed for this purpose.

Please help us keep the tradition of generosity flourishing as living practice here at WRDC.
