Hello!

Gardening Matters is excited to offer community garden minigrants of up to $750 for community food production gardens. These projects should support the long-term infrastructure of the garden.

These minigrants are funded by The Green Patch Program at The Wedge Natural Foods Coop. Thank you to the members and shoppers at the Wedge Co-op, who Choose to Reuse and pass the benefits on to their community.

To apply for a mini-grant, please fill out and submit the application form by May 1st. Grantees will be notified by June 8th and checks will be sent by mail to the garden mailing address provided in the application by June 15th.

Gardens are eligible for a mini-grant once every three years. The intention of this is to spread the funds equitably and sustainably to gardens over time.Community gardens need to be registered with Gardening Matters in order to be eligible for funds.

Funding priority goes to community gardens that demonstrate a clear project or need for their community garden. Special consideration will also be given to gardens that emphasize serving low-income or food insecure people in their neighborhood.

Gardening Matters’ goal is to see each community garden be as successful and sustainable as possible through shared decision-making, integrating the needs of the community with the garden. Questions included in the applications related to these pillars of success and sustainability are intended mainly for self-reflection and analysis for your garden group.

In exchange for funds, mini grant recipients will be asked to complete a very brief final report, which includes a request for at least one success story from the growing season with accompanying pictures. The final report will be due to Gardening Matters by November 1, 2015. Stories and photos will be shared with Wedge Coop shoppers and community gardeners.

Completed applications can be sent by email to or mailed (or walked) to Gardening Matters office at the address listed below. Let us know if you need us to print and mail you an application.

See you in the garden!

Sincerely,

Nadja Berneche
