Attitudes and values

A Pyramid Club Leader should:

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards children and be motivated by the need to support children’s development
  • Have a positive attitude towards working with people of any gender, family status or sexual identity, or who are from any ethnic origin, culture or faith or who may have a disability
  • Demonstrate a sensitive and non-judgemental attitude towards others

Knowledge and experience

  • No prior knowledge or experience necessary but a basic understanding of children’s needs at various stages of development (e.g. gained from previous experience of looking after/caring for children) would be desirable

Skills and abilities

  • Be punctual and reliable and understand the importance of reliability to the successful delivery of Pyramid Clubs
  • Have good communication skills including listening skills and be able to communicate effectively with children, parents/carers and colleagues
  • Be able to facilitate play and able to support children to participate in club activities, express themselves appropriately and develop their self-confidence
  • Be able to work as a member of a team and to work with others to plan and deliver a positive club experience for all children
  • Be able to observe progress and identify the needs of children and keep appropriate records as required by Pyramid
  • Be able to accept guidance and direction and to participate in supervision/support arrangements as required by Pyramid
  • Recognise when there is a need for support to carry out the role
  • Be clear about confidentiality and when confidences need to be kept, but be able to judge when disclosure of a confidence is essential to the well being of a child
  • Be prepared to be flexible and change plans if they prove to be inappropriate
  • Be enthusiastic, encouraging and willing to try new things

Circumstances

  • Be available (to the best of their knowledge) for the duration of the Pyramid Club (normally 10 weeks) and (if possible) to take part in two further sessions – the pre-club meeting and the post-club Review
  • Be available and willing to undertake Pyramid training
  • Be willing to undertake a comprehensive selection assessment process including criminal records checking
