Research Experience
Current Research Plans Expected Implementation Fall, 2010
The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina
The purpose of the proposed study is to measure the degree of
behavioral change, assessed through behavior rating scales, and
demonstrated by elementary school students who participate in
weekly sessions of child-centered expressive therapy. In this
research project, master’s level school counseling interns who
have taken a graduate level course in expressive therapy will
provide expressive therapy to one student, from the group of
students with whom they work in individual counseling, in a public
school setting over the course of their internship experience.
Participant selection will be based on parental consent and teacher
referral, and will be matched according to presenting behavioral
difficulty. Pre- and post-intervention data will be obtained via
behavior rating scales completed by teachers and parents and will
be analyzed for statistical significance. Permission to conduct this study will be obtained in advance from the Departmental Review Board and/or Institutional Review Board at The Citadel, the school system, and the school administrator.
