Athletic Director

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Cusick School District seeks an exceptional candidate who is committed to providing a smooth and efficient operation of the athletic department. The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational skills and be able to accurately complete the detail and written work related to operations and duties of the athletic department in a timely manner.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is open beginning March 13, 2017. It will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. This position will begin in the 2017-2018 school year.

REPORTS TO: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Clear FBI fingerprint background check.

2.  Clear Washington State Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Release.

3.  Strong background in athletics and event management.

4.  Preference will be given to individuals possessing a teaching certification.

COMPENSATION: A supplemental contract will be offered at a rate that is commensurate with Districts of similar size and athletic offerings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Coordinates the athletic program for grades 6-12 in collaboration with the principal and coaches to ensure program needs are met.

2.  Initiates the recruitment of coaches, coordinates the interview committee, and makes recommendations for hiring in conjunction with the principal.

3.  Supervises all coaches at the high school and middle school level. Brings any issues about coaches to the principal as soon as possible, not waiting until the end of the season.

4.  Provides training for coaching staff including but not limited to advancement toward coaching certification. Documents training for coaches and sends documents to district office for recording.

5.  Schedules all high school and middle school athletic contests.

6.  Responsible for all setup/takedown at all home events.

7.  Communicates schedules and schedule changes in a timely manner to all stake holders.

8.  Maintains the proper and necessary student records including but not limited to athletic code, student insurance, concussion, and other mandatory district and state forms.

9.  The athletic director will provide a roster to the secretaries for each sport. The office will track ASB cards and transportation release forms.

10.  Determine eligibility of all athletes prior to the start of the season.

11.  Notify head coaches of eligibility status of all athletes in their program in accordance with the MS/HS eligibility policy.

12.  Ensures officials are scheduled for high school and middle school contests.

13.  Attends league and district meetings with permission of principal.

14.  Supervises the preparation and verifies all athletic priority lists weekly.

15.  Coordinates departure/return times of all away events with district transportation director.

16.  HIGH SCHOOL HOME EVENTS

a.  Supervises all fall and winter high school athletic home contests unless another administrator agrees to cover the event.

b.  For spring sports the athletic director will be present for a portion of each home event falling on a week day. The athletic director will be on call for spring coaches during all home events and provide contact numbers in the event coaches need support. Prior to each spring home contest the athletic director will contact coaches to ensure the coaches' needs for the event are met.

c.  Unlocks the facility, greet the team and officials at least one hour before the event or makes arrangements with another administrator or coach to do so.

d.  Remain in the building until all others have left (or coordinate this duty with custodial if custodial is available past the departure of all others). Secure the building and shut off lights.

e.  Monitors facility (including hallways) and parking areas.

17.  MIDDLE SCHOOL HOME EVENTS

a.  Athletic Director will be present for a portion of each home event, unless arrangements have been made for another administrator to cover the event. The athletic director will be on call for all middle school home events and provide contact numbers in the event coaches need support.

18.  Home Contest Responsibilities in general:

a.  Workers will be arranged and confirmed at the game. (lines people, chain crew, announcers, ticket takers, score clock officials, and others as needed)

b.  Coordinates the preparation of all fields and courts in advance of home contest.

c.  Delivers change box to gate keeper and secures gate money and concession money in safe after events.

d.  Coordinate half-time events and communicate events with the principal and secretary.

e.  Ensures parking lot and walk ways are cleared of snow and ice by coordinating with custodial and principal.

19.  Meets with parents and/or coaches (if necessary) to respond/resolve all inquiries, complaints and/or conflicts in a timely fashion.

20.  Serves as liaison to booster groups.

21.  Coordinates and attends post season award banquets.

22.  Attend and provide a verbal report at monthly school board meetings.

23.  Uses practice and game observation data to perform an annual evaluation of each coach in each sport. Conducts a post-season review with the coach and provides a signed copy of the evaluation to the District office for placement in the coach’s personnel file.

24.  Ensures coaches recover gear and update inventories at the end of every season.

25.  Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and his/her designee.
