Introduction

I am a web designer / developer living in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. I have been working in the industry since 2002 and I have a BA(hons) degree in Visual Communication, specialising in web design.

I consider myself to be primarily a web designer and front-end developer, rather than a back-end developer, although I do have a lot of experience in both. I mainly use Adobe Photoshop with HTML (HTML5), CSS (CSS3), Javascript / Jquery for front-end design and development work. I also extensively used Adobe Flash earlier in my career. For back-end development work, I mainly use PHP (PHP5), SQL and MySQL databases and, if needed, XML, SOAP, Classic ASP and Access databases.

I am very familiar with responsive design and building cross-browser friendly websites. I have a firm understanding of SEO, and developing to comply with DDA legislation and W3C recommendations. I have plenty of experience in using modern coding techniques to conform to up-to-date development and accessibility best practice.

Employment

2011 – Present: Web Developer, RomanCart Ltd. / Sellr Ltd. Bath, Somerset.

My current position is mainly a design and front-end development role. I have designed and built approximately 100 responsive ecommerce template websites for our customers to use in conjunction with our ecommerce platforms. I have designed and built the company websites and a number of bespoke website templates for our customers. I am involved in developing complimentary applications for our range of core systems, including a PHP application to allow our customers to remotely list products on eBay, a Javascript customer GUI, and a range of Jquery slideshows, galleries and interfaces.

2006 – 2011: Lead Web Designer / Developer, JPC InfoNet Ltd. Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

At JPCi, I designed and developed a large number of dynamic websites for companies ranging from "one man bands" to government bodies and multi-national organisations, including websites for Orange (guitar) Amplifiers, Wilts Electrical Wholesalers and the Wiltshire police force. Unlike my current position, this job involved as much back-end development as it did front-end work, and it is where I gained most of my skills and experience in this field. During this period, I developed a PHP ecommerce system which integrated in to a number of payment gateways and featured a full admin system, currency convertor and shopping cart.

2003 - 2006: Web Designer, Impress Media Ltd. Warminster, Wiltshire.

During my time at Impress, I designed and developed a large number of static websites for local and regional companies.

2002 - 2003: Freelance Web Designer.

My initial forays in to commercial website design were working as a freelancer for local and regional companies. I designed and developed a number of websites over this period, including a now discontinued Flash website for the Club Ice night club in Westbury, Wiltshire.
