Guide to UI Assessment

Closing the Loop

Discussion.

Successful focus groups – some said communication was an issue and we started a newsletter to improve this.

Our benchmarks are strong and we’ve made them stronger with the new background check policy.

---

How are our changes working?

Fewer hits on dispositions.

Success on UI edTPA.

FFF helped us realize that we are a strong program. Supported what we are doing.

Visible in the community with partnerships forged.

Moving programs into K12 schools and interacting with our K12 colleagues.

Provide students with in-school experience beyond student teaching.

PD and Summer Outreach community programs were well attended and received.

Paul will put this into appropriate language and will bring it to the group at the September 5 meeting for faculty approval.

Background Check

This is in place now. Policy is linked to the agenda.

They will also do a personal disclosure form twice throughout their college career.

Retention Data

Data are attached to the agenda. Dan briefly explained the numbers.

Amended Teaching Major/Minor List

Paul shared the list of teaching majors and minors that are no longer on the books. Economics should not be on the list.

Advanced Studies and Secondary Meetings

Rodney has taken up the challenge for designing a Masters+Cert program. He’s produced a great document outlining everything necessary to develop this program and will share it at our next meeting.

Secondary Ed

We need a new champion for the Natural Sciences endorsement. Brant Miller will take the lead with advice from the department chair.

New Rules for English

No more 20 credit endorsement. Must have a 45-credit major for the endorsment. Ingrid and Janine will work with English Department to develop this for our UI catalog.

Tiered Licensure

The PPT is linked to the agenda.

This is being pushed through quickly. Being implemented before administrators are trained to assess inservice teachers.

The 1st tier is preservice to inservice. Students must graduate with a “plan for growth.”

They will be traveling around the state requesting input from the public.

TaskStream Rollover

Paul will be rolling over Elementary DRFs tomorrow. If you have changes needed, please let him know.

Secondary all have their own DRFs. Paul can help if you need it.

Sally will do the roll over for Ed Core. Get your changes to her ASAP.

We do not keep the data if you do not assess your students in TaskStream.

Apparently, there is a way to link TaskStream and BbLearn. Talk with David Schlater.

SBOE Report

Paul shared Dan’s report, linked to the agenda.

Well done, C&I colleagues!

Other Business

Need Elementary and Secondary Ed Program Coordinators.

MSD is on a delayed start. This may trip some C&I students up a bit.

Dale Gentry’s wife passed away. Her service will be September 6.

Meeting adjourned at 3:20 p.m.
