Current Volunteer Needs

Due to policy, all volunteers must fill out a confidential volunteer application; attend a volunteer orientation, get a background check and sign a confidentiality agreement form as part of the process of joining the Covering House team. Orientations are held monthly. Email to get signed up for an orientation. Here is the current list of volunteer opportunities:

  • Third Party Events
  • We love when volunteers get creative about involving their friends and community in planning an event. Hold a car wash to generate funds or put on a trivia night. Donate your birthday or bachelorette party and instead of gifts. We encourage you to find new ways to get those around you giving.
  • Stock Our Shelves
  • Each month we have two groups help us collect all of the non-perishable items we need. Get a group together to help us collect food and other needed items!
  • Special events
  • Throughout the year, we have several major events to benefit the Covering House that couldn’t be run without the help of our volunteers. A few major events include the Race for Refuge (5K), Shop ‘Til You Drop, and the Rock ‘N Roll for Refuge.
  • Special Event Committee
  • Being a part of an event committee involves a lot of the planning, publicity, and fundraising for each of our major events. This is a great way to get involved in a hands-on way!
  • Operation Food Search
  • We partner with OFS, which is a St. Louis-based non-profit organization dedicated to ending hunger in St. Louis. A volunteer can help us select non-expired appropriate food items from OFS (training will be provided).
  • We also need expert shoppers to help us reduce the cost of our groceries by helping our staff member shop on grocery day. We need help appropriately storing and organizing the food when it gets back to our therapeutic home.
  • Community Based Services
  • It is our policy to have two staff (this can include staff and a volunteer) while we have clients come in to do therapy at our offices. You can sign up to sit at our offices while we have clients. Bring a book to read or check off some things on our volunteer to-do list.
  • Office Work
  • Donor outreach and Donor Committee: Work at the offices writing thank you notes or making calls to donors. You will help remind those who support us just how valuable they are!
  • Organizational health team: You can assist with tasks that include cleaning and organizing. Help us maintain the clean, warm and welcoming place of healing for our girls.
  • Help us organize our shelves so we can always have a stock of extra clothing, quilts, and hygiene items.
  • Host a trafficking awareness dinner
  • Entertain and educate your friends. We can provide you with a packet, PowerPoint presentation, and the resources that you need to put on a successful awareness event of your own. Invite your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives over for dinner.
  • Speaker/Presentations
  • Volunteers who have been helping consistently with the Covering House have the opportunity to be trained as a member of our Speaker’s Bureau. We receive many requests to speak at churches, workplaces, schools, and other organizations. Those volunteers who help with these presentations will be prepared to go give these talks and spread awareness of the issue.
