CURRENT REQUIREMENTS FOR DEGREE THESES

(Ordinance No. 16 of the Rector of the University of Warsaw,
amending Ordinance No. 8 of the Rector of University of Warsaw)

After the degree thesis is approved by the supervisor for the degree exam in the USOSweb system, the student (upon the programme degree completion) submits three identical copies of his/her licencjat/magister degree thesis, signed in person by both the student and the thesis supervisor, to be handed to the thesis supervisor, the reviewer and one for the student’s file.

The copy to be archived has to be printed double-sided (only this copy is submitted to the secretariat).

*the title page of the licencjat/magister degree thesis should include the following text, proportionally centred:

The title page must include the supervisor’s dated statement on acceptance of the thesis.

*page two of the thesis includes (Encl. 1):

  • the supervisor’s statement on admitting the thesis for further procedure;
  • the student’s statement on the thesis being the product of his/her own work and on the printed and electronic versions of the thesis being identical.

*page three includes:

  • summary of the thesis(no more than 800 characters) – approx. 16 lines,
  • key words (no more than 10) – in singular, written down in one sequence and divided by commas,
  • Area of study, code and name (accordingly):

8.900 – other humanities (family sciences)

14.100 – political science

14.100 – social policy

14.600 – international relations

14.600 – European studies

14.900 – other areas of study connected with social sciences (internal security, Eurasian studies)

  • title of the degree thesis in English (must not be written in capital letters)

If the requirements listed above are not met, the degree thesis cannot be archived.

PLEASE NOTE !!!

Pursuant to Ordinance no. 7/2013 and 9/2013 of the Dean of WDiNP: ‘supervisors of (licencjat/magister) degree theses shall be compelled to check each degree thesis with the use of the Plagiat.pl system and the report generated by the systemsigned by the supervisor has to be enclosed to the student’s documents, as a precondition for being admitted to the degree exam.’

Without the abbreviated report from the system the student will not be allowed to take the degree exam!

In order to take the licencjat/magister degree exam, the student must submit the following documents to the secretariat

(once the thesis is approved by the supervisor in the USOSweb system and the reviews by the supervisor and the reviewer are entered):

  • magister / licencjat degree thesis printed double-sided and an electronic version of the thesis in a computer file from which the hard copy was printed, on a CD or DVD.Use the PDF format for the file (one file only).The file should not be larger than 25 MB;
  • 4 photographs (if no English version was requested) or 5 photographs (if the English version was requested) for the diploma, dimensions: 4.5 x 6.5 cm;
  • an additional photograph in the case of a diploma with distinction;
  • a clearance slip from the student dormitory – for students of full-time programmes;
  • the student ID (except for students of the 3rd year of the first cycle programmes);
  • a clearance form (template available on the website of WDiNP or in the secretariat);
  • a report from the Plagiat.pl system signed by the thesis supervisor;
  • payment of the diploma fee in the amount of PLN 60 (without the English version) or PLN 100 (with the English version) – the payment should be made to an individual bank account indicated in the USOSweb system only after the amount payable is displayed in the system and no later than 7 days before the degree exam;
  • information about the date of the degree exam and on the composition of the degree exam board – the chairperson, the reviewer;
  • additionally:

students who wish to have additional information on practical placements (obligatory/voluntary) or their membership in academic societies included in the diploma supplement, have to submit documents confirming such facts as well as any relevant information both in paper and electronic form (on a DVD or CD) in Polish and in English (no frames).The information must be submitted to the secretariat by 20 May of the current year in the DOC format;

students who do not want the English version of the diploma have to submit a written statement on their resignation to the secretariat;

students of ISM (full-time programme) pursuing an individual course of study have to submit a list of courses completed outside their institute, in English and in Polish, in an electronic form (on a DVD or CD) and in a paper form confirmed by the respective secretariat.

Persons resuming studies in order to take the degree exam have to submit: an application for resumption of studies addressed to the Vice-Dean for student affairs, before submitting the degree thesis.

Before taking a licencjat / magister degree exam a student has to pay all payable amounts in the USOSweb system.

PLEASE NOTE!

Pursuant to Article 16(1) of Resolution of 159/2015 of the Board of WDiNP dated 17 June 2015:

‘A degree thesis should be submitted to and signed by the supervisor no later than one month before the planned completion of the study programme.A signed degree thesis shall be submitted to the secretariat to be archived no later than 2 weeks before the scheduled date of the degree exam.Any other formal requirements specified by the Dean shall be met beforethe submission of the thesis to be archived.’
