Fire and Rescue NSW Commissioner’s Orders 2011/23

POLICIES

New Standard Operational Guidelines – Electricity

1. Introduction

Following a number of electric shock injuries to FRNSW firefighters, instructions on dealing with electrical hazards at incidents have been reviewed.

As a result, a new framework has been developed, consisting of six new Standard Operational Guidelines (SOGs) and check sheets, plus a Guideline Support Document providing background information on electricity. These new SOGs consolidate information from a large number of FRNSW electricity-related instructions, which are rescinded.

The new SOGs clearly identify safe and effective instructions for working at incidents where there is an electrical hazard, which must be followed by all firefighters.

2. Standard Operational Guidelines published

The following SOGs, check sheets and Guideline Support Document have been published and are available on the Standard Operational Guidelines site on Station Portal:

SOG 14.2, Isolating power at incidents (Version 01)

SOG 14.7, Alternative power sources check sheet (Version 01)
