GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS / CADASTRAL MAPPING SPECIALIST

Florida governmental agency seeking individual who has a comprehensive and technical knowledge of Geographic Information Systems. Applicant should have knowledge of the internal structure, maintenance procedures, customization processes, external interfaces, and developing trends of GIS mapping. He/she will set goals, motivate and evaluate employees and supervise in a team environment. He/she should know the principles and practices of cartography and automated mapping, state plane coordinate systems, map projections, coordinate geometry, basic surveying and be able to read and interpret legal descriptions, maps, plats, aerial photographs and other GIS related source information. Bachelor's degree required with major course work in management information systems, systems science, or a related field. Four years of professional experience in GIS related activities is desired. Knowledge of and experience in ARC/INFO, ArcView, and AML programming is required. Avenue and Visual Basic programming skills are a plus. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

Starting salary range is $40K - $55K depending on qualifications and includes an above average fringe benefit package.

Hiring Range: $3,321 to $6,257/ Month (Salary Dependent Upon Qualifications)

The selected candidate will provide GIS analytical support to plan, design, implement/monitor a multimodal transportation system; collect, analyze evaluate data for transportation services/facilities/equipment; maintain GIS computerized land-use, demographic/travel databases and coordinate with public/private agencies. Will assist in developing/budgeting GIS activities; manage consultant contracts, train staff, ensure quality of products/services. Prepare/present reports, graphs and charts. Conduct research and assist with environmental impact documents.

Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in GIS, geography, civil/transportation engr, planning, computer science, mathematics or related field plus 3 to 5 years GIS experience. Candidates with less experience may be considered for lower levels. Knowledge of research techniques, data analysis and statistical methods. Computer applications proficiency including strong GIS software skills (Arc/Info, ArcView, MapObjects, Oracle, Visual Basic), spreadsheets, word processing and related database management. Ability to manage/supervise within a strong team environment. Excellent verbal/written communication skills essential.
