Current Events Assignment – English IV Honors

Instructions:

  1. Select an article of at least 300 words or more from a newspaper, news magazine, or Internet news website.
  2. The article you select must be in some way related to our classroom discussion. This does not mean that it has to have a direct connection to whatever text we are reading, but in some way (even tangential) it must connect and you will be responsible for explaining this connection.
  3. The article you select must be from a reputable news source, not a random website.
  4. After carefully reading the article, complete the following questions and attach a copy of the article to the back of theassignment sheet. Be prepared to present your article to the class.
  5. You will be responsible for two current events per nine weeks. You will sign up for these dates and you are responsible for having your current event on the day it is due. Current Events will be presented on Thursdays in class.
  6. Thecurrent event may only be from the current week or the prior week. Older articles are no longer “current.”

The analysis and article must be turned inon the day it is due. Since you will select the date you wish to complete a current event, you are responsible for remembering when it is due. If you “forget” to complete the assignment on the day you selected to present, it will be considered late andwill not be accepted. Only in the case of an emergency and excused absence will you be allowed to turn your assignment in after the day it is due.
