Directions:
This assignment must address the following topic categories in the order in which they appear below. Please type this assignment and attach a copy of the article to your analysis. The news story you select must focus on a significant news event and be at least one page in length. As with all assignments, please proofread your work so you can correct spelling and grammar errors. All category titles should be boldfaced and underlined in the order as shown below.
News Category of the Event:
Is this event national (taking place within one nation) or international (involving more than one nation)? List the nation or nations involved.
Date of the Event:
When did this event take place? List the specific date that the incident took place. If the specific date of the event is not evident, use a generalized time period as well as the specific date that the new story was released.
Geographic Location:
Where did this event take place? List the city or cities, nation(s) and continent.
Factual Background Summary of the Event:
In one paragraph, writing in complete sentences, explain what happened using specific, significant, factual details. Make sure to describe the actions in the order in which they occurred. Do not copy material, even phrases, directly from the article- your entire summary should be written in your own words. Please do not quote material.
Impact on the World:
How does this incident affect other nations of the world? You must describe a minimum of three effects (think about issues of power, money, people’s ways of life, the environment). The effects must be bulleted or numbered. Do not state that the incident has no effecton the world. Avoid overly simplistic generalizations such as “people will be killed” or “the environment will be destroyed” as well as ‘what if’ scenarios [e.g. if the building was destroyed then people would die and their nations would have to seek revenge for the deaths].
