CUB SCOUTS HOLDING CAR WASH
Cub Scout Pack 711 in Port Charlotte is holding a car wash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday,Sept. 5, at the Service & Support Center of Charlotte State Bank & Trust, located behind the Murdock office at 1100 Tamiami Trail.
The scouts will be washing cars in the Service & Support Center parking area, which can be accessed from Tamiami Trail and Paulson Drive. A $5 minimum for each car wash is requested, but donations in any amount are welcome.
Pack 711 consists of 25 boys who meet at Kingsway Elementary School. Parent and volunteer Linda Wilcher said the pack is raising funds for a trip to Kennedy Space Center in November, when the scouts will be camping out in the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit.

Foreign Film Series Resumes
Florida Gulf Coast University's Renaissance Academy
has announced the fall schedule for its Classic Foreign Film Series. Films will be showing every Tuesday at 1 p.m in the FGCU's Renaissance Academy which is located at 117 Herald Court Square, Punta Gorda. Tickets are $5 and include refreshments, prior to each film.
Lee Stein, moderator, introduces the film. A brief discussion will follow each movie.

Emmy-Winning Artist Working with FSW Students

1-3 p.m. Bob Rauschenberg Gallery at FSW, Fort Myers Campus
Artist Wayne White, winner of three Emmy Awards for set design and puppetry on the 1980s television show Pee-wee’s Playhouse, will be in residency at the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery on FSW’s Thomas Edison (Lee) Campus. White will be working with FSW students and alumni to create a gigantic puppet sculpture of the late Bob Rauschenberg. Members of the media will have an opportunity to photograph and speak with White and the FSW students or alumni in attendance. WAYNE WHITE: HERE COMES MR. Charlotte State Bank and Trust
Punta Gorda builder and author Peter F. Taylorhas announced that hewill donate $5 to the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition for each copy of his new autobiography sold. The donation will apply to his Sept. 8 book signing at the Punta Gorda office of Charlotte State Bank & Trust as well any other venue where the book is purchased. Titled The People’s Contractor: My Life in the American Building Industry, the book traces Taylor’s career from his youth in New York to his position as a leading builder in Charlotte County. Taylor will sign copies of the book, priced at $25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the lobby at the Punta Gorda bank, 2331 Tamiami Trail. Founded in 1989, the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition assists individuals and families in need. Clients include the chronically homeless, as well as those hit hard by the economy and foreclosure crisis. Join us in being a part of the largest day of charitable service in the United States! This year, we are inviting children of all ages to join us from 5:30-7:00pm on Friday, September 11th for a free art class hosted by our art director Ron Bates. We will be painting/coloring/drawing works of art to honor our local firefighters, paramedics, police officers and other first responders, that we will then donate to stations throughout the county. FISHERMEN’S VILLAGE “FALL FESTIVAL” TO FEATURE LIVE MUSIC BY THE “SURF KATS”, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2015
Fishermen’s Village Waterfront Mall, Resort & Marina will present their annual Fall Festival, 10 am-4 pm, Saturday, September 12, 2015.
New to this year’s Festival, the “Surf Kats” will perform instrumental surf music from 12 Noon-3 pm near Good ‘Ole Days Coffee Café. Many new vendors will also be showcased, including SWFL Produce Co-op, offering fresh fruits and vegetables for purchase on site during the event, vision screening by the Punta Gorda Lions Club and the opportunity to donate blood at the “One Blood Bus” in the Village parking lot.

Sunday, Sept. 13, is National Grandparents' Day, and Charlotte State Bank & Trust is marking the occasion by giving away a grandparents' gift basket in a drawing at each of the bank's five local offices. Winners will be selected on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and notified by phone to come in and pick up their baskets in time for the big day. Bank lobbies are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Grandparents' Day is celebrated in 14 countries, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. 3rd Annual Comedy For A Cause- September 18, 2015This show is guaranteed to be the funniest fundraising event around. Enjoy a delicious dinner while local celebs entertain with side splitting improvisational antics. This year’s cast of community leaders is: Joe Angelini, Janie Duke, Miranda Fields, Dave Ivankovic, Steve Lineberry, Matt Mativi, Bob Miller and Kat Padgett.
The C.A.R.E. Auxiliary Society will hold its 3rd Annual Catch & Release Fishing Tournament on Saturday, September 19.There will be a Captain’s Meeting on Friday at 6pm at Cass Cay in Burnt Store Marina. This is a family friendly event with prizes for lady anglers and kids.
How can you help? There are three ways:
We need teams. 3 or 4 anglers per boat with the entry fee at $300. Ask your significant other, your neighbors and friends. Because this is a family friendly event, everyone is welcome.
We need sponsors. If you work for a company or know of a company that might like to sponsor this event, the forms for your use are attached. Sponsorship levels begin at $100!
