The top three finishers in each rank from each Pack in the Lighthouse District are invited to participate in our District Finals. Webelos I & II are considered two ranks.

Race Date: Saturday, March 27, 2010

Location: The service bay of Dave McDermott Auto Group

Directions: 655 Main St., East Haven, CT., I-95N exit 51 (Rt. 1), ½ mile on left or I-95 N, exit 51, 1st right. OR I-95So, Exit 52 (High St), left off ramp to Main St. Right on Main St, follow approx. 1 ¼ miles to McDermott’s Plaza on right.

Rank Designated Time for Weigh-In:

Tigers - 11:00am Wolves - 11:15am

Bears - 11:30am Webelos I - 11:45am

Webelos II - 12:00pm

◙ Registration fee is $7.00 per car and must be paid at time of weigh-in.

◙ Arrive at your ranks’ designated time for weigh-in. Once all cars of a given rank are entered into the race computer no other cars can be added.

◙ The top three finishers in each division will receive a trophy. All participants will get an award. There will not be a final run-off with winners of each division.

Registration Process

Registration of your top 3 finishers in each rank (Webelos I & Webelos II are considered two ranks) is to be made via email to Gina Iasparra at:

Please separate scouts by rank and include scout name, Pack number and town.

We ask that you register ahead of the race to help with our race day registration process.

If one of your rank winners is not available to participate, an alternate can be registered.

Official Pinewood Derby Rules

(Please read carefully)

1)  Wheels must be mounted in the original slots cut into the pine block. Only the wheels and nails that come with the kit are allowed. Any defective material may be replaced.

2)  Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are not permitted.

3)  No “wafering” or other alteration of the wheels is allowed. They may be sanded smooth and trued.

4)  No oil, grease or silicone spray may be used on the axles or wheels. This could soften the plastic used in the wheels. Graphite may be used and is recommended.

5)  Overall body width may not exceed 2-3/4 inches. Minimum width between the wheels is 1-3/4 inches.

6)  Overall body length may not exceed 7 inches.

7)  Minimum clearance to the bottom of the car must be 3/8 of an inch.

8)  Weight of the assembled car may not exceed 5 ounces (141.75 grams).

9)  No loose materials of any kind are permitted on the car.

10) THE CARS WILL BE CONSTRUCTED BY THE CUB SCOUT with guidance from an adult family member or pal. (Remember, this is supposed to be a hands on learning experience for our cub scouts)

11) Cars, which do not meet the minimum requirements, will be returned to their owners at registration and corrections may be made to bring the car up to spec. A repair area will be available. Cars that are damaged during the race may also be repaired. No other adjustments may be made to the cars once the registration committee has accepted them.

12) Pre-cut cars from hobby shops, etc. are not allowed

13) Cars must be newly built this year. Cars from previous year races are not eligible.

14) The Derby Committee will mediate all disputes. Their decision will be final. We welcome your comments and suggestions. Please help us to make this a great event.

Please list the top three youth from each rank in the spaces provided below. You may list a fourth who will be listed as an alternate. If a youth within the top three is unable to make the District Pinewood Derby finals, the alternate is eligible to compete in that spot. In order for an alternate to participate, the youth not participating (or a family member) must contact the District Pinewood Derby committee and inform the committee that they will not be able to participate. Once confirmation of pulling out has been received, a member of the committee will contact the alternate from within the appropriate rank and inform them of their eligibility to compete. (Alternates, unless called prior to the Derby, will not be able to race their cars at the district finals) – Once your Derby has been completed, send this form to the Pinewood Derby Committee through the contact information listed below.
