CTK SUMMER READING 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The goal of Christ the King is to assist your child in becoming a lifelong reader. The summer months provide the perfect opportunity to extend and enrich your child's readingexperiences. Please encourage your child to read during the summer and assist your child in making appropriate choices for reading.

Summer Reading Requirements and Guidelines:

1. Each incoming 2nd - 7th grade student must read 2 “summer” A/R books.

2. Students going to fifth grade are required to read one specific book, Frindle by Andrew

Clements. They will begin the year using this book in reading class, so each student

must have his/her own copy. All students must take the AR quiz before the summer

deadline, and before they begin using it in class. The students are free to choose any

other book as long as the reading level is 2.5 or above.

3. The school office will be open during the following times during the summer for A/R testing.

It is best for the test to be taken as soon as possible after finishing the book.

·  May 31 – June 10th 9:00am – 12:00pm

·  July 25th – August 10th 9:00am – 12:00pm

·  Thursday, Aug. 11 – Friday Aug. 19 Students may still take summer reading tests

during the 1st week of school.

·  Friday, 8/19, is the last day to take summer reading tests.

4. Summer Reading Grading Policies:

·  Each test must receive a passing grade in order for the student to receive credit for the reading. It will be a Pass/Fail grade.

·  Summer Reading will count as a grade for all 2nd – 7th graders.

·  100 = passed 2 quizzes; 50 = passed 1 quiz; 0 =did not take/pass any quizzes

5. Summer Reading A/R points (and any other points accrued before Aug. 20th) will not count

toward their 1st nine week quota or bonus points.

Happy Reading!
