Matters Arising

Chris Edge confirmed CSSC’s new website had been launched. However, there were some teething problems with the migration of data.

The Quality Street Assessment form will be updated at the end of the meeting.

Chairman’s Report

Tony spoke about next year’s Regional Bowling competition and outlined the format he had in mind. It would be very similar to the CSSC Regional Competition at Cheltenham. He hoped to have 12 teams, 3 from Chatham. He had spoken to Ray Allen, South and South East Chairman, about a subsidy. However, an entry fee of £30 would be needed to cover costs, provide lunchand prize money for the winners. He would speak to the Honourable Pilot about putting up any travelling teams and whether they would be prepared to help out with sponsorship. Stephen Webb suggested we set up a Sub Committee to take this forward.

Secretary’s Report

Chris White said unfortunately we had run out of time to obtain the tickets and promote the horse racing event at Sandown Park in August. He would seek to run the event in June/July 2017. Jan Patis said Lingfield Park run similar events.

The Social Events Sub Committee has been looking at running a theatre trip to the Orchard Theatre in Dartford to see either “Buddy” in October or “Sunny Afternoon”(the Kinks) in November. Lindsay had checked availability and prices for both Wednesday and Saturday performances (matinee and evening) and with a subsidy the trip could be offered to members at a very favourable price. The Committee asked him to book tickets to see both shows - “Buddy” on Saturday 29 October (7:30) and “Sunny Afternoon” on Wednesday 16 November (2:30). As the Committee had opted to see a matinee performance of “Sunny Afternoon” Lindsay was asked to check with the coach company how much more it would cost for the coach to stay in Dartford for an extra two hours after the show finished so that members could have a meal afterwards. Jan Patis said she could provide the names of some restaurants. However, members would be expected to make their own arrangements. Pat Linstead would be asked to circulate these two outings to the wider Chatham membership with a closing date in case there had to be a ballot.

Jan Patis said she had been in touch with Johnny Beck from whom Gordon Kemlo used to obtain the tickets for the Greyhound Racing at Sittingbourne. He is able to get a 20% reduction on prices and for our group to have the “Guinness Room”. Johnny said if the Committee could come up with several dates he would see when the room was free. Derreck Sheeress was asked to investigate the cost of a coach from ROKO to the stadium and backso that Chris White could take this forward. Pat Linstead would also be asked to circulate this event to the wider Chatham membership.

Tony said he wanted the Clubhouse to be used more during the winter months. He suggested holding a horseracing night with perhaps the help of an outside company.

Treasurer’s Report

Mick said he was still having problems with Nat West. Thankfully all 3 names are now able to sign Area cheques. He would wait until the 2nd instalment of the Grant was in our account before switching over to Lloyds.

It was agreed that the Area would give the Bowling Club £3,600 pa split into two tranches (£1,800 in March and £1,800 in September) and that there would be no fee charged to the Bowls Club for the hire of the Green. However, if after running the Area’s social events there was any money left over at the end of the financial year the majority of this money could be given to the Bowls Club.

AOB

Colin asked if CSSC were looking at joining up with the National Trust. Chris said he would find out and let us know.

Jan Patis said the new free digital Tastecardwhere you can get a 50% discount off the total food bill was very good.

CSSC had signed up with Merlin Entertainments (Thorpe Park, Logoland, Shrek Adventure, Chessington; etc) with effect from 1 August 2016.
