Role Title:Service Manager (Nominated Supervisor)

(Previously known as Director)

Employment Status:(Full Time / Part Time / Casual)

Report To:The Service Manager shall be accountable to the Managementof the (Insert Organisation Name).

1.Primary Role

The Service Manager is a senior and respected position within the (Insert Organisation Name), with overarching responsibility for the leadership and management.

Key duties include promoting and ensuring:

  • the delivery of high quality early childhood education and care based on a primary care giving model
  • strong trusting relationships between children, families and staff
  • a strong and cohesive professional team
  • meaningful parent participation in all aspects of service provision
  • flexible relevant and responsive service provision
  • cost effective service provision and the best investment of available resources.

2.Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Centre under her/his control in accordance with the policies and standards as determined by the Committee/Management from time to time.
  • Actively promote the objectives and goals of the (Insert Organisation Name).
  • Actively plan for and maintain high standards of management and administration of the Centre at all times.
  • Actively encourage and support the operation of Management and parent groups within the Centre, and ensure that there is a clear understanding of roles.
  • Manager the staffing of the Centre.
  • Achieve and maintain close and open communication with and supervision of all staff in the Centre.
  • Achieve and maintain the Centre in an orderly and safe condition at all times, and be responsible for workplace health and safety within the Centre and immediately record and advise Management of any potential or actual hazards and record and notify Management of any injuries or dangerous occurrences.
  • Be aware of and take whatever action is necessary to ensure children's supervision, health and safety.
  • Attend all Management Meetings as the Senior Officer and in a consultative capacity.
  • Be aware of the Budget for the Centre and take all steps to ensure compliance with that Budget.
  • Submit regular reports to Management on the operation of the centre.
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual budget, and provide advice and guidance to Management as may be required from time to time.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of records relevant to the operation of the centre including program and administrative records, as may be required.
  • Ensure compliance with all Government Regulations, legislation, standards and requirements at all times and assist Management in completing any necessary forms or returns.
  • Be aware of community needs and changes as they occur and how these can or do influence the centre, enrolments, etc. and to report these matters to Management.
  • Be prepared for and prepare staff for unusual events which may occur in respect of child safety (e.g. suspected child abuse, child left at centre, attempted unauthorised removal of child).
  • Plan for and provide opportunities for ongoing staff development and training.
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealing with parents and staff on sensitive issues, and ensure that all staff and Management are also aware of this requirement.
  • To actively promote the Centre in the community through various avenues which may be available from time to time.

3.Other Responsibilities

  • Arrange advertisements for staff vacancies organise interviews and be a member of the interviewing panel with members of Management.
  • Recommend the engagement, appointment and dismissal of staff.
  • Authorise expenditure in accordance with the Budget for the Centre subject to the necessary approval of Management for larger items of equipment, etc.
  • Counsel staff in cases where there is non-compliance with accepted work patterns, behaviour and standards in accordance with accepted processes.

5.Essential Qualifications

  • Senior first aid certificate, including resuscitation certificate.
  • Current Suitability Card
  • Minimum three or four year qualification in Early Childhood Education.
