POSITION SUMMARY / Thepurpose of this position is to co-ordinate COACH – Community Mentoring Programme with key partners and lead, train and motivate volunteers into taking action in communities affected by poverty, social exclusion and injustice. Also, to take on any COACH related projects as directed by the senior COACH Co-ordinator.
KEY CHALLENGES / The key challenge for this position is to be able to work with vulnerable / challenging young people aged 9-15 in an outreach capacity and to match them to volunteers, case-managing each relationship.

KEY RESULT AREAS (up to 8 KRAs)
KRA 1: COACH Related
Description:
- Tooversee programme coordination including on-going support for volunteer coaches and their supervision, recruiting and checking.
- To assist training coaches and other volunteers.
- To comply with approved programme standards with COACH Programme and Policies Quality Principles for coaching.
- To recruit and assess young people and match them to volunteer coaches.
- To assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the programme and include volunteers and young people in these processes wherever possible.
- To provide community development advice to local communities, charities and businesses.
- To help build key partnerships with community organisations and schools in relation to the COACH programme.
- To assist in marketing COACH – Community Mentoring and other LifeCare programmes at network meetings and agency visits, as agreed with MLCS.
KRA 2: General enquiry and youth care services
Description:
- Handle community care related enquiries (phone or in-person) and make referrals where appropriate.
- Build relationship with young people by following them up and caring for them.
KRA 3:Systems and procedures
Description:
- Handle administrative tasks (including database update/maintenance) related to COACH
- Ensure systems and procedures supporting COACH services are functioning efficiently.
- Review and arrange COACH services forms and files.
KRA 4:Teamwork
Description:
- Work as a team member and where appropriate and possible, help other staff when they require assistance.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate COACH training.
- Attend LifeCare and COACH Co-ordinators’team meetings, retreats and other activities.
- Adhere to Crossway Baptist Church’s and Crossway LifeCare’s policies and procedures.
KRA 5: Other duties
Description:
- To undertake COACH related projects or activities as directed by MLCS or Senior COACH Co-ordinator.
- Report to any incidents or matters of concern in the centre and update the incident log book accordingly.
- To help with fund-raising COACH and other Programmes
KEY COMPETENCIES
Experience/Qualifications:
- Tertiary degree or Diploma in Social Work, Youth Work or similar or working towards such qualification.
- Ideally the post-holder would have a 36 months voluntary or paid experience with young people.
- Child Protection Legislation
- Ability to provide volunteer and youth services and support under pressure, including problem solving and the balancing of youth expectations with LifeCare priorities.
- Demonstrated Case Management or Community Development skills.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, set and implements priorities, manages multiple tasks, and evaluates performance.
- Ability and confidence to respond appropriately to young people with mental/emotional/spiritual issues.
- Well-developed/ effective written and oral communication skills, including liaison skills.
- Excellent and professional administrative skills and experience.
- Demonstrated people skills and proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated qualities in capacity to apply judgement, flexibility, responsiveness and initiative in the delivery of service to LifeCareyouth and staff.
- Ability to provide pastoral care to volunteers.
- Use of personal vehicle and current Victorian licence.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office applications & database systems
- Ability to respond to concerns and complaints with patience and discernment
- Preparedness to learn new skills as required
- Flexible and able to cope with interruptions
- Knowledge of good budgets practices
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to relate well and understand issues regarding children and young people.
