CRITERIA ROTARY MATHEMATICS AWARD

I. A student to be eligible must meet these requirements in the following subject matter areas:

  1. MATHEMATICS--4 units, with an overall average of 3.5 (Algebra I, Algebra II,

Geometry, Advanced Mathematics, Calculus)

Should more than one student qualify, a differentiation, could be made by

examining the average of the six weeks' grades in order to determine the student with the highest average.

B. ENGLISH--4 units, with an average of 2.0

C. PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY--1 unit each with no sem. average below 2.0

D. ALL ACADEMIC SUBJECTS--an overall average of 2.7 or better.

Physical Education, Driver Education, Choral Music and Band are not to

be classified as academic subjects.

E. MUST HAVE ATTENDED PONCHATOULAHIGH SCHOOL DURING

BOTH THE JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEARS (per scholarship guidelines)

II. Mathematics teachers who have taught these students will serve on the selection committee along with others designated by the principal.

III. In case of a tie between two or more candidates, the Mathematics teachers could give valuable subjective information concerning each student in order to determine the one MOST qualified to receive the award. Students taking Calculus will be given special consideration, if GPA is the same.

IV. In cases of a tie in Item I-A, the averages in English, Science, and general academic subjects will be considered in order to rank the students in order of achievement.

V. Rotary Club President, Vice-president or President's designee will make the presentation on Awards Day.

ROTARY MATHEMATICS AWARD SCHOLARSHIP

The criteria for determining the recipient of the $2000 scholarship include the following:

1. Mathematics - 4 units, with an overall average of 3.5 (Algebra I, Algebra II,

Geometry, Advanced Mathematics, Calculus).

2. English - 4 units, with an average of 2.0.

3. Physics and Chemistry - 1 unit each with no semester average below 2.0.

4. All Academic Subjects - an overall average of 2.7 or better. Physical

Education, Driver Education, Choral Music and Band are not to be classified as academic subjects.

5. Must have attended PonchatoulaHigh School during both the Junior and

Senior years.
