CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF SUMMITCOUNTY SAFETY COUNCIL “SAFETY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR” AWARD

  1. PURPOSE

The purpose of the award is to recognize and honor an individual(s) who has demonstrated outstanding activities and achievements in the fields of a manufacturing, medical, services and/or community safety in SummitCounty.

  1. EIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD

A nominee for this award must be actively involved in safety based upon personal dedication, concern and special contributions to the cause of safety and accident prevention.

1. Any nominee shall have had at least five years history in safety – related activity, including volunteer work.

2. All nominees must live, work or be active in SummitCounty – and have had at least 2 years of safety involvement here.

3. All applicants will be considered from the previous year (updating of data needed), with any new nominees for the award.

  1. NOMINATIONS

Nominations are to be made with the application form supplied by the Summit County Safety Council and submitted to the Executive Board. Enclose a safety-related resume of the nominee listing the nominee(s) special contribution in the field of accident prevention and safety following the guidelines below.

  1. SUGGESTIONS FOR NOMINATION

Listed below are suggestions which will be helpful to the Selection Committee when evaluating the nominees. This is provided for guidance only. Please expand on any of this information and provide additional data which may cause your nomination to be considered in the most favorable and professional manner.

  1. Explain in detail, job/community-related safety and accident prevention duties and responsibilities.
  2. Explain any work-related accomplishment and recognitions.
  3. Explain activities in outside safety-related organizations, including any offices held and any recognition received.
  4. Explain any other activities in the local community i.e. church, service clubs, schools, social organizations, and leadership roles held.
  5. Discuss any written contributions to safety publications or periodicals which concern safety-related matters.
  6. Explain any self-improvement activities in strengthening safety-related activities – formal schooling, seminars, training classes, conferences.
  7. Provide any other information that will strengthen the nomination for the award

VCONTINUED SAFETY INVOLVEMENT AND RATING – 100% Maximum

Each of the factors would be influenced by the length of time that the individual has been involved in that activity.

QUALIFICANTS:

  1. Years involved in safety, employment, schooling, etc (up to 20%)
  2. Voluntary personal involvement – consider frequency, time committed, etc (up to 50%).
  3. Teaching or training
  4. Talks, showing of film, demonstration, safety fairs
  5. Development of safety programs
  6. Generating publicity on safety matters. E.g. letters to the editor
  7. Managerial: directly related to employment and the degree of personal responsibility and supervision (up to 10%).
  8. Organizational involvement (up to 20%)

A.Participation in civic, community or church safety programs.

B.Activity within professional groups as an officer or member, writing manuals or standards, attending or participating in seminars such as the Safety Congress, on own time.

VISELECTION OF SAFETY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Each nominee’s qualifications will be reviewed by the Summit County Safety Council’s Executive Board. Once the Board has made the decision, the recipient(s) will be notified officially of his/her selection.

  1. RECOGNITION

The Safety Citizen of the Year will be honored at the Annual Summit County Safety Awards Banquet. The recipient’s qualifications and contributions to safety will be recognized at that time. The recipient will receive an appropriate award which will be determined each year, prior to the annual banquet.

Qualifications are based on the following:

Years involved in safety and accident prevention (minimum of five years of safety related experience)

Type of Involvement:

  1. On the job – managerial, supervisory, teaching or advisory capacity. Includes presentation, committee work, civic and community organizations, safety – oriented groups, activities, program development etc.
  2. Voluntary – presentations, committee work, teaching, civic and community organizations, legislative activity, safety oriented groups, etc. this could include uncompensated time representing a company or organization.
