Definitions

Eurostat definition: robbery is a sub-set of "violent crime". It is defined as stealing from a person with force or threat of force, including muggings (bag-snatching) and theft with violence. Excluding pick-pocketing, extortion and blackmailing.

UNODC definition: robbery means the theft of property from a person, overcoming resistance by force or threat of force. Where possible the category robbery should include muggings (bag-snatching) and theft with violence, but should exclude pick-pocketing and extortion.
