Creative writing time!

Your task over the next week or so is to write a creative story. This story will be in some way inspired byEast of Eden. Choose one of the options below OR come up with your own idea (just run it by me).

Timshel in high school:

Write a story with original characters of your own that deals with the concept of timshel, that we have a choice each day to do the right thing or to do the wrong thing. (You do not need to explicitly mention the word timshel, but you mayest.) You could focus on students or teachers. You can base this story on something you’ve done, or something you’ve heard about from a friend—just change the names.

Sequels:

Let’s say that all of Cathy’s money that was supposed to go to Aron eventually comes to Cal, as the only living relative of Aron. What does Cal do with this enormous sum of money?

Supposed that after Adam dies, Lee finds out that he has magically acquired a super-power. It could be the power of finding water, like Sam Hamilton, or some other cool ability/power. What’s the super-power and what does he do with it?

Pretend it turns out Aron did not die in the War after all—that the telegram was based on an error. What would happen if he came back home to California?

Personal reaction:

Find a paragraph from East of Eden that resonates with you.(Your paragraph could be as short as a single line of dialogue, if you want.) Type the paragraph at the top of the page. First explain why you connect with that paragraph or why you are interested in it. Then tell me a little story from your life that relates to whatever paragraph you’ve chosen.
