KZNCC Child and Youth Development Coordinator KZNCC

The KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council (KZNCC) is a fellowship of churches and church based organizations in the KwaZulu-Natal Province established in 1995 as a provincial Council of Churches. The KZNCC and its members seek to express their Christian faith in responding together to social, political and economic justice challenges facing the province. The advertised position focuses on the care, protection and development of children and youth at risk. Our mission is to develop a strong youth desk, support children in need, help them to shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.

The KZNCC invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for 3-year contract renewable depending on funding availability and performance, starting in January 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate will:

- be a highly-motivated person of vision with at least a 3-year tertiary qualification or have over 5 years’ experience ofworking on youth issues;

- be willing and able to travel extensively in the province to promote this aspect of KZNCC’s work;

- knowledge of the Children’s Act and justice system and Child and Youth Care qualificationsis advantageous;

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate skills in the following:

  1. ability to administer youth programs and develop team building.
  2. effective presentation and listening skills.
  3. effective negotiation and mediation skill.
  4. stress management, basic counseling, behaviour management and problem solving.
  5. mature and sensitive approach to cultural and individual diversity.
  6. ability to relate to and willingness to engage in fun, sporting and creative activities with youth.
  7. computer literacy and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  8. have a valid license to drive a motor car.

Thecoordinator will be expected to:

i.Mobilize youth providing advice, guidance and counselling as needed.

ii.Develop an appropriate program for child and youth development in liaison with KZN ecumenical organizations.

iii.Ensure that the basic needs of each child and youth within the program are assessed and addressed.

iv.Develop and maintain good work relationships with KZNCC member Churches, ecumenical organizations, government and other stakeholders.

v.Assess the program requirements of youth in KZN and link them with KZN regional youth initiatives

vi.Ensure a variety of sport, recreation, cultural and other programs are planned and implemented
