Course Philosophy

This course will cover the fundamentals of Physics, which will include the concepts of force, motion, and energy as well as the fundamentals of Chemistry, which will include the concepts of matter and molecular interactions. The purpose of this class is to gain an understanding of basic scientific principles such as gravity, velocity, force, energy, chemical attractions and repulsions, and how these things effect our ecosystems.

Course Structure

CP Physical science will be an activity-based course that will include labs, group activities, individual projects, an ongoing dialogue of science and technology in the news, and of course, formal assessments. Each student will be responsible for the following:

  1. All assigned classwork, groupwork, and homework.
  2. All lab reports (to be done individually by all group members using collective group data).
  3. Two article summariesper quarter about “Science in the News”. See handout.
  4. All daily bellwork that will be collected on weekly basis.
  5. All tests and quizzes.

Course and Classroom Expectations

  1. Be in your seat when the bell rings ready to begin bellwork.
  2. Complete all assigned work on time (late policy below)
  3. No food or carbonated/sugared beverages. (gum and water only)
  4. Restroom/water fountain obligations are to be taken care of before/after/between classes. (pass policy below)
  5. Respect the classroom, its equipment, and those who are in it.
  6. Stay in your seat or assigned area until the teacher dismisses you.

**The tardy policy and absent policy that is outlined in the Student Code of Conduct will be followed in my classroom.

Latework Policy

All work is expected to be turned in by the assigned due date. If the work is not turned in by the beginning of class on its due date, it will be considered late. For each day late, the grade will be dropped one letter grade. For example, if an assignment is worth 20 points, the grading scale will be adjusted as follows.

Pass Policy

  1. Each Student will be given two passes per quarter.
  2. To use your passes, you must have YOUR planner..
  3. If you try to use someone else’s planner, you will forfeit your passes for the quarter.
