Cover Supervisors and Administrative Support Assistant

Cover Supervisors and Administrative Support Assistant

COVER SUPERVISORS AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT ASSISTANT

The Headmaster and Governors have resolved to employ Cover Supervisors and Administrative Assistants in order to:

  • Minimise the use of internal teaching staff in taking cover lessons
  • Improve consistency in cover lessons, by reducing the use of external supply staff
  • Improve continuity of cover for classes
  • Help and support teaching staff with duties associated with Workforce Remodelling.

Principles Agreed for the Use of Cover/Administrative Supervisors:

  1. Cover Supervisors will be the ‘first call’ to cover lessons during the first 10 working days of any teacher absence;
  2. External supply staff will normally be used after the 10th working day of continuous absence;
  3. Cover supervisors will receive the appropriate skills and training;
  4. Teachers may be required to cover for colleagues where a Cover Supervisor is unavailable. This is subject to the 38 hours per year contractual limit;
  5. The Headmaster will determine who is competent to undertake the role of Cover Supervisor;
  6. Appointment to the role of Cover Supervisor will be for a trial period of not more than six months. For those already on contract with the School their job security will remain;
  7. Cover supervisors will be required to cover other supervisory duties including invigilation and school trips;
  8. Cover supervision does involve taking sole charge of a group of students.
