Covenant Keepers Charter School Board Minutes 11.17.15

Meeting called to order at 5:36 p.m. Board members present were Dr. Caron Dunn, James Jones, Noland Buckley, and Cynthia Townsend. George Bazan and Ernest Sanders absent.

Teacher presenter: Kevin Bryant

Old Business

  • Spoke with Dr. Wilde about AE school. Plan is still being written out. Will submit plan to board members no later than first week in December
  • Looking at more of an AE vs ALE. AE is more of a place where students will be able to get treatment, counseling, and mental health as needed.

Directors Report- Dr. Tatum

  • Forward Arkansas (Mrs. Smith and Jared) CK will be a part of this program. Rockefeller and Walton Foundation fully supports CK being apart of it.
  • Charter Authorizing Panel meeting will be on Thursday (email board members the letter) November 19, 2015. This hearing is to try and postpone meeting for December.
  • Diane Curry former LRSD board member wants to work along with CK.
  • As the instructional leader Dr. Tatum is working with LT having meetings and doing John Maxwell meetings. Also mentorship and connecting with individuals. TSC also helps with building relationships amongst the team.
  • Doc and Clancy are tag teaming the Monday teacher meetings. Watching Mr. Hester videos on YouTube on Mondays. Teachers are comparing Mr. Hester’s class with their own.
  • Hedgehog concept is from a book read by the LT team. Everyone in the building has their door decorated with their hedgehog concept.
  • Spoke to Jim Walton. He will come out to visit school and help us out with technology needs at the school. Possibly doing 1 to 1 with students. Everything will be registered so that inventory can be kept up with.
  • Will be able to hire some of teach for America teachers
  • Express YoSelf with Chris James. This was a day that all students were able to do different art projects during this day. All students were able to participate. We will have a Expedition for students to be able to show off what they are doing.

Assistant Directors Report- Lori Clancy

  • Serious behavior issues have declined due to teacher impact and systems put into place.
  • We are on a renewal timeline. Over three months so that everything can be submitted on time. Everyone has their part to work on.

Financial Report- Tatum/Hill

  • Financials still running low due to decrease in funding.
  • Looking at ways to continue cutting cost
  • October 1st enrollment is up about 30 students compared to last year. This will help significantly for next school year.
