COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Principles of Engineering course is amid-level course in the Project Lead the Way curriculum. Upon successful completion of the course the student will be eligible to receive college credit through the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The class will introduce the student to the many fields of engineering. Hands on activities will reinforce instruction throughout the year. Projects include:

Marble Sorter

Ballistics Device

Hydraulics

Destructive Testing

Renewable Energy

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A 3-ring binder is required and is for this class only! This should be brought to class each day
  2. A pen or pencil in class each day.
  3. Binder should have 4 tab dividers and paper.
  4. All work missed must be made up.
  5. Participation in all class activities.
  6. Follow all internet safety rules.

EVALUATION:

PROJECT/LAB WORK: This includes all class projects and activities either individual or team based. Any grade that you receive that is part of a project will be considered a project/lab work grade. All project assignments are worth 60% of your grade and are therefore very important in determining your grade for the course. You are expected to follow all class rules, cooperate with others, and participate in class activities.

HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned throughout the year and will vary depending on the current topic of study. All assignments will be collected, graded and returned. Due dates for all homework assignments will be announced in class. If you are absent the day homework is assigned or due, see the instructor and make arrangements to make up the work. You will lose 10 points each day the assignment is not turned in after the due date.

TESTS/QUIZZES: Tests and quizzes will be given throughout each marking period and may either be announced or unannounced. Tests will be given on class project and activity content. All missed tests/quizzes must be made up.

NOTEBOOK: Your notebook will be collected and graded at the end of each quarter. This should be kept neat and orderly with only class material. It should have a cover with your name and period clearly written on it. All tab dividers must be labeled with all material in the proper section.
