Algebra 2

Ms. Karen Luke

(281) 577 – 2800 Ext 5208

Course Overview: Algebra 2 involves mathematics that a student should cover before taking other advanced math courses. This course will begin to tie together all of the math you have experienced up to this course. In Algebra 2, students will study the following algebraic topics:

Linear/Quadratic Functions

Systems of Equations/Inequalities

Operations with Polynomials

Square Root, Rational and Inverse Functions

Transformations of Parent Functions

Rational Exponents

Students will have the opportunity to investigate various topics in detail and incorporate applications of these concepts.

Supplies: It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with all of our activities. I suggest a binder or folder. Math should be done in pencil but pen is permissable. A TI-Inspire Calculator is provided.

Grading: There will be at least 3 tests and 9 daily grades per grading period.

Daily grades consist of daily work, quizzes and homework and will count as 40 % of the student’s average.

Major grades consist primarily of tests and will count as 60% of the student’s average.

Cheating: Cheating will not be tolerated for any reason. If a student is caught cheating, he/she WILL receive a zero, have parents contacted, and student must redo the work for a maximum grade of 70.

Re-testing: The department retesting policy states that a student may re-take any test for up to a 70 after they complete additional practices/reviews assigned by the teacher.

Student Expectations: I can’t teach you if you’re not here. Please try not to be absent or tardy unless absolutely necessary. You are expected to come into class each day, get out the supplies, and be ready to work. I encourage class participation and group work. I expect you to be courteous and considerate of others at all times.

Basic Classroom Policies:
