Course Description

Students will prepare materials; calculate the cost for a building site, and layout a site with a transit, locating lines and corners. Students calculate the amount of concrete needed for footing and foundation walls and construct different types of foundations and forms. The students will practice floor framing, layout, and construction of floor frames. Cutting and installing floor and wall framing members according to plans and specifications will also be practiced. The course also covers roof types and combinations of roof types used in the construction industry, with an emphasis on layout, cutting and installing ceiling joists, rafters, roof decking, and roof coverings. Safety in the lab andon the job will be stressed.

Grading

Grades will be based on an average of the mean scores on quizzes, projects and daily grades.

*Courses with grades of less than a ā€œCā€ will not count toward a certificate or be eligible for dual credit.

Procedures for Makeup Work/Tests

Make up work will not be allowed for unexcused absences. Student shall request makeup work and have it completed and turned in within one week of return to class.

Attendance Policy/Withdrawal Policy

There is a lot of information to be presented. Students are expected to attend and be punctual. In the event the student misses all or part of a class he or she will be expected to make up that days assignment. Withdrawals from class will be handled by the High School. Unless I am notified by the High School, you are still enrolled and responsible for your assignments.

Supplies

  • Please bring Pencils/Pens and Paper to class. There will be written assignments and tests given.
  • Safety Glasses are required. Without proper eye protection, students will not be allowed to work in the shop area.
