COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will involve hands-on applications, technology based exploration and the integration of algebra skills and is designed to provide a strong foundation in mathematics to help students develop the content and problem solving skills needed for success in college, careers, and daily life.

GRADING SCALE AND POLICY
Sanger High School grading guidelines are established to assist students with the mastery of the TEKS for each course. Tests and major grades will count for 50% of the student’s total grade, Common Formative Assessments will count 10% of the student’s total grade, and daily work will count for 40% of the student’s total grade. Grades will be based on the following system:
100 - 90 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
Below 70 F
LATE/MAKEUP WORK
Late work for daily grades will be accepted up to 3 days past the original due date under the following conditions:
1st Late Assignment – No Penalty
2nd Late Assignment – 25 point deduction
3rd Late Assignment – 50 point deduction
After the third late assignment in the six weeks grading period any assignments not turned in by the due date will result in a grade of a 0.
Assignments that are in the major grade category as determined by the teacher (tests, projects, etc.) are not accepted past the due date.
The student’s late assignment count will begin over each six-weeks grading period.
Students are afforded the opportunity to make up assignments for which they scored below a 70. They must complete the make-up within 3 days of receiving the graded assignment.
When a student is absent from class they are afforded one day for each day missed to complete the assignments.
FINAL EXAM EXEMPTIONS
To be exempt from finals students must have three absences or less in the class they are wanting to exempt. Students may only exempt a maximum of three semester exams each semester and they cannot exempt the same exam twice in a school year. Student must have an 85 or higher accumulative average for the semester. Students who have been assigned to ISS/DAEP are ineligible for exemptions.
CELL PHONE POLICY
Cell phone use is not permitted in classrooms unless expressly authorized by the teacher for educational purposes only. Once the tardy bell has rung, phones should be placed in backpacks and remain there for the duration of the class period. Phones may only be used before school, during passing periods, and while at lunch. If a teacher asks for a student’s phone and the student refuses to cooperate an administrator will be called to remove the phone from the classroom. If a parent needs to make contact with their student during class time please contact the front office and they will assist you.
HEADPHONE POLICY
Headphone use is only allowed before school, during passing periods, and while at lunch. Students may only use headphones in class as permitted by the teacher for educational purposes only. If a student refuses to cooperate with the headphone policy disciplinary actions will be taken.
TARDY POLICY
Students must be in class before the tardy bell stops ringing in order not to be counted tardy.
Any student arriving after that time is considered tardy. A student who is tardy to a class must go to the office and receive a tardy slip. Repeated instances of tardiness will result in more severe disciplinary action, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
Tardies are cumulative not per class period and will reset at the completion of each semester
1 -5 Tardies: No Consequences
6-10 Tardies: Lunch Detention (1 Day for Each Tardy)
11-15 Tardies: Lunch Detention (2 Days for Each Tardy)
15-20 Tardies:Saturday School (1 Saturday School per Tardy)
20-25 Tardies: Saturday School (2 Saturday Schools per Tardy)
26-30 Tardies: Saturday School (3 Saturday Schools per Tardy)
31st Tardy: DAEP – 10 Days
41st Tardy: DAEP – 30 Days
51st Tardy: DAEP - 45 Days
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Academic integrity is an essential element to success of Sanger High School’s philosophy of promoting academic excellence. For an academic institution to be successful, an honor code and consequences for violating the honor code must be established. Indeed, once the student is in a college, university, or workplace, any form of dishonesty will result in serious penalties, including automatic course failure and expulsion, degree loss, job loss, etc. Cheating, dishonesty, and plagiarism will not be tolerated at SHS. ALL incidences will be immediately turned over to administration.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
1. NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN THE CLASSROOM, EXCEPT CLEAR WATER BOTTLES (20oz or less)
2. BE INSIDE THE CLASSROOM BEFORE THE TARDY BELL RINGS
3. DO NOT DISTURB YOUR CLASSMATES.
4. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO KEEP THE TEACHER FROM TEACHING OR YOUR CLASSMATES FROM LEARNING.
5. NO CELL PHONES PERMITTED.
