TEFLBootCamp®

Course Instructions:

140 Hour Certification Course

Go to this webpage and download your course materials:

For the first half of your course:

Study either your coursebook (TEFL Training for New Teachers) or all the Teaching Skills and TEFL Skills pages of The pages on the website are more often updated, however, and may have additional materials, new links, replacement of broken or moved links, etc.

It is important that you study the TEFL Method, Lesson Plan and Boardwork pages first and in that order. After that, you may study any pages in any order, with the exception that the pronunciation page needs to be studied before the listening page.

Study all the sections and the links to pages outside the website as well. Download and read the handouts on the various pages also.
When working on the Grammar Page, be sure to download the grammar eBook and work your way through it completely.

When working on the Writing Page, download the two writing manuscripts and look through them to get a sense of the method used, especially in the Sentence Writing manuscript.

Your examination will be based on the material in your coursebook (which is the same as the material on the website), the grammar eBook and the two writing manuscripts. You will not be tested on the information in the other eBooks. They are intended to help you after you finish the course. You will not be tested on content from the ESP manuals as those will present your final projects to be submitted after the examination.

When you are ready to take your examination, download it from your resources page here:

Your examination will be “open book” and there is NO time limit for its submission. If your work is not satisfactory, you will be given feedback on your examination and lesson plan and told where the problems are, how to fix them and asked to resubmit your work. This course is about learning – not about pass/fail.

The examination will consist of a written test and a lesson plan project. The written test will be primarily open-ended questions. For the lesson plan, be sure to follow the suggested lesson plan format from the website and use one of the methods provided (either PPP or ESA).

Expect to spend no less than four hours on the examination. Some teacher-trainees will need to spend as much as ten hours or more. For new and/or inexperienced teachers, a good lesson plan can take a lot of time to prepare.

Your examination will be reviewed and you will learn the results of it within three business days from when you submit it.

Second half of the course:

When you have successfully passed your examination, you should proceed to reviewing your ESP and TEYL manuals. Use the methods and information from the first half of your course to develop a good solid lesson plan for each of the ESP areas (Examinations, Business English, Hospitality English and Young Learners).

Go back and review exactly what is needed for a lesson plan and select one functional topic of your choice from each ESP eBook. When all four lesson plans are completed, submit them to: for evaluation.

Your projects will be evaluated and a decision will be made within three business days of your submission. When you have passed the full course your 140 Hour TEFL Certificate and your four ESP specialty certificates will be mailed to you.

When submitting your lesson projects, please include your full legal name as it is written in your passport as well as your complete postal address.

After you have successfully passed your examination lesson plan projects, your certificates will mailed to you using regular airmail. At the same time a PDF scan of your certificates will be emailed to you, so you will have them almost immediately.

If you have any questions, please ask. We will not do your work for you, but our goal is the same as yours: your success.

Best Wishes as you begin your TEFL journey.
