[i]Head of School or nominee
[ii]A Deputy Chair should be named or indicate that the Deputy Chair is selected from a pool of
senior staff and provide names. The Deputy Chair would not attend the exam board unless required –
refer GEAR E2.1.5-2.1.7
[iii]Further guidance is provided as follows:
- academic staff with a relevant spread of subject knowledge, experience of teaching and
assessment of the course(s) under consideration
- could include pathway/route/field leader(s), year leader(s), link tutor(s)/mentor(s) and internal professional assessors
- minimum 3 and maximum 10 members (if not already covered by course/programme leaders)
Where anexam board is held at the end of each semester, they should have the same constitution
and membership and where a member is only required for a particular exam board this should be
highlighted
[iv]For a course examination board in a tiered system this may be the Course External Examiner or
Chief External Examiner.
[v]The Chair of the examination board can approve the attendance of a member of staff for
developmental purposes who would attend the board as an observer;
[vi]Can be named and replaced without (re)approval by the Sub-committee for Assessment
[vii] A representative from Academic Services is entitled to attend the examination board as an observer, nominated by the Registrar and Secretary (or nominee), and would normally be drawn from the Quality and Standards division. A name does not need to be specified on the constitution and membership.
Note:
- The constitution and membership of each examination board are approved annually on behalf of the Academic Board by the Sub-committee for Assessment (SCA).
- Once approved by SCA, the constitution and membership of an examination board is fixed. Any subsequent revisions to the constitution and members of an examination board must be recommended by the Chair of the School Board of Study for approval by the Chair of the Sub-committee for Assessment (or nominee).
