Content:ThiscourseisdrivenbythenewCommonCoreStateStandardsforCareerandCollegeReadiness.Webuildoncontentfrompreviousyears.

Studyingisexpectednightlyformasteryoftermsandconceptsingeneral,aswellasforspecificassignments.It isimportantthatstudentsmaintain an organizedbinder.Studentsmustregularlyreferbacktomaintainproficiencywithskillsandvocabulary.

Grading: Therearemajorgrades(60%), minorgrades(30%),andparticipation(10%)

(1)MajorGradessuchas·in-classessays,tests,take-homeessayswillconstitute60%ofeachmarkingperiodaverage.Rewritesmaybeacceptedforpre-specified assignments.Rewritesmustbestapledontopoftheoriginalgradedpaper. Theyareduewithin3daysofthereturnoftheoriginalpaper. Rewritesthatdo notincludesignificantimprovements incontentwillnotearnimprovedcredit. (Simplyfixingspelling isnotenough!)

Thisincludes classparticipation/preparedness (includingitemsthatare'checkedoff')aswellasH.O.W.(HabitsofWork)thatisbasedonworkethic...asdemonstratedinclassbehaviors, throughcompletionof classandhomework,pursuinghelpwhenneeded,workingwellwithpartners/ingroups.

Allassignmentsare tobefullycompletedbythebeginning ofclassontheduedate. Allduematerials mustbeplacedinthe12thGradewirebasketonthecart. Wedonotneedtoaskforthehomework;itisthestudent'sresponsibilitytocometoclassontimeandimmediatelyplaceitinthecorrectwirebasketonthecart. Latework(unexcused)receivesaZERO.StudentswillberequiredtocompleteaHomeworkExcusesheetthatwillbekeptonfile.

**Eachstudent will beallowedONEclaimofextenuating·circumstancestoavoidthelatepenalty. Todoso,thestudentmustmeetwiththeteacherbeforehomeroom onthedatetheassignment isdueandbeprepared toestablishanalternative duedate.

AstudentwhoislegallyabsentfortheFULLDAYonadaythatanassignmentisduemustturnitinthedays/he returnstoschool. If astudentisinschoolevenpartoftheday,thehomeworkmustbe turnedinto thewirebasket onthedesk. Leavingearlyforafieldtripisnotavalidreasonformissingaduedate. This includes BOCES activities.

Attendance:Studentsareexpectedtoattendclassregularly. Everydayisimportant. Makingup workisnotequivalenttobeinginclass. Studentsareexpectedtobeintheirseatsreadytobeginwithnecessarymaterialswhenthebellrings. StudentHandbookproceduresareineffect.

MakeUpWork:Thestudentisexpectedtoapproachtheteacherthedayofher/hisreturn(CLASStimeisNOTthetimetoexpectmyattentiontothis!)beforeschooltogetmissedmaterials,assignmentsandsetduedates. ALLMAKEUPWORK,ORWORKTURNEDINLATEDUETOLEGAL ABSENCEMUSTBELABELED"abs"ABOVETHESTUDENT'SNAME.

If noarrangementis madewiththe teacher,itisunderstoodthattheduedateisonedayafterthestudent'sreturn. If theworkisnotmadeupbytheduedate,thepenaltyforlateworkdescribedabovewillbeapplied.

Conferences:Availabilityislistedatthetopofthissheetandontheclassroomdoor. Beawarethat,withoutan appointment,it is 'firstcome,firstserved." Thefive-minutepassingtimeisusually'notadequatetosetduedates,explainassignments,reviewgrades...andsoforth.

If wedonotknowthatyouarecoming,wemaybe elsewhere, especially inthemorning (soleavea VMtoletusknowtoexpectyou). lfyoudoswingbyandwearenotthere,leaveanotenearthe computer onthedeskstatingwhenyou aregoingtoreturn.

"Icameandyouweren't there'' is not a valid reasonforfailing to attend to

missed work if you never had an appointment!

ltis the responsibilityofeachstudenttomaketheteacherawareofanyspecialneeds,concerns, problems. Wearebetterabletoaccommodateand problemsolvespecialsituationswhenmadeaware oftheminadvance.

Cell phones will immediately by confiscated! We will not return cell phones to students

at the end of class; wewillturnthemintothe principalattheendoftheday. Cellphoneuseduring

testsresultina grade of "0".(Cellphone use isnotavalidexcuseforbeing in the hallwhenthebellrings

forthestartofclass.)

**Power plays over phones, or any other electronics, will not be tolerated. If you do not want to give it up, then keep it properly put away.**
