National Health Standards:

The Curriculum focuses on the eight major National Health Education Standards:

-Health Education Standard 1: Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.

-Health Education Standard 2: Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.

-Health Education Standard 3: Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health.

-Health Education Standard 4: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

-Health Education Standard 5: Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health.

-Health Education Standard 6: Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal setting skills to enhance health.

-Health Education Standard 7: Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.

-Health Education Standard 8: Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family and community health.

Health education plays a vital role in educating the whole student.

Assessment:

Students will receive a daily grade of 0-5 based on the following criteria:

  • Attendance
  • Punctuality
  • Being “On Point” (Respectful, Responsible, Ready, and Safe.)
  • Participation
  • Class assignments/ projects/ activities

Grading Policy Grades 6,7,8:

Guided by the assessment criteria, grading will be based on an individualized school point system:

  • To earn an “E” (EXCELLENT), a student must earn 85- 100 %
  • To earn a “S” (SATISFACTORY), a student must earn 65-84 %
  • To earn a “U” (UNSATISFACTORY), a student earns less than 65%

Grading Policy Grade 5

  • “E” (EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS)
  • “M” (MEETS EXPECTATIONS)
  • “N” (DOES NOT MEET EXPECTATIONS)

Students can earn an E for exceed expectations; M for meets expectations or N for does not meet expectations. Students earn this grade for each class they attend. Students have 3 standards each term in Health. The first standard will receive an E, M or N and the two other standards will receive a 1-4 with 4 being the highest score.

1. Demonstrates the ability to practice health enhancing behavior

2. Analyzes the influence of culture, media, and technology and other factors on their health.

3. Comprehends concepts related to health promotion
