UNIT 5: Food
Country to Visit: Cuba
Dear Parents:
Our fifth graders started Unit 5in February and March. In this unit the
students will learn about food, restaurants, how to be healthy, ,
the five senses, and the Cuban culture.
They will also learn how to describe what they eat, and their favorite food
and drinks using thenew vocabulary in Spanish. They will discuss why
a good nutrition is important, and will analyze the food pyramid.
The students will practice essential questions with their classmates,
such as:
* What is your favorite food?
* What is your favorite drink?
* What foods should you eat to be healthy?
* What do you do to stay healthy?
* What are the five senses?
Literature:
Read and analyze a poem in Spanish.
The students will identify the main idea and
details in a text.
Grammar:
The students will learn:

Dear Parents:
Our six graders started Unit 5in February and March. In this unit the
students will learn about meals, traditional food, celebrations, how to be
healthy,and the Guatemalan culture.
They will also learn to identify the parts of the bodyusing the new vocabulary
in Spanish. They will discuss why a well stablish exercise routine is important
to keep our bodies healthy, and will analyze what to do in case of an injury.
The students will practice essential questions with their classmates,
such as:
* What are your favorite foods?
* What kind of food does your family eat during celebrations?
* How are different parts of the body used?
* How can you lead a healthy life?
* Can you identify the senses?
Literature:
Read and learn about El Popol Vuh: a Mayan book
History:
The students will learn about one of the largest Mayan cities in
Pre-Columbian times: Tikal
