Comments: The Country Club of Darien is a private, family oriented, full service club which was founded by Edgar Auchincloss in 1957. Mr. Auchincloss converted the family estate and working farm of 140 acres into a country club which features an18 hole golf course, eight tennis courts, four paddle tennis courts, swimming pool facilities as well as a clubhouse. Many substantial improvements have been made over the years to both infrastructure and buildings at the Club. The latest improvements were made in conjunction with the recently completed long range capital plan and include a golf course renovation program, a competition-class swimming pool, a new main/banquet kitchen facility, a new environmental care center for grounds maintenance, parking and landscape refurbishments, administrative offices and a new staff house for employees residing on the property.

The original golf course was designed by the famous golf architect Alfred Horace Tull. In 2009, as noted above the Club completed an expansive golf course renovation guided by Dr. Michael J. Hurdzan of Hurdzan & Fry Golf Architects. This project recently received the “Renovation of the Year Award” from Golf Inc. Magazine and Dr. Hurdzan was also a finalist for the prestigious “2009 Best Architect” balloting by the International Network of Golf.

Students selected as Interns will work closely with the superintendent and assistant superintendents to accomplish the golf course standards and meet the member expectations. Interns will be involved in all facets of golf course management including; watering, fertilizer and pesticide applications, course set-up, irrigation repair, topdressing, mowing and other tasks related to the care of the course.
