Counselor Technician

General Purpose

The AODA Counselor Technician is responsible for supporting AODA Counselors with urine analysis testing for all outpatient clients, co-facilitation of groups, and support for the LIVE and Healthy Connections grant.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • The AODA Counselor Technician is responsible for the assessment, education, and treatment of client’s experiencing substance abuse disorders
  • Complete UA’s according the alcohol and drug testing policy. Responsibilities will include creating monthly schedule for UA testing, dropping clients according to color system, and documenting all incomplete UA’s and notifying clinical team. Responsible for ordering all UA testing supplies.
  • Help coordinate services for the LIVE grant. Responsibilities will include coordinating client’s enrollment in the grant.
  • Assist clients enrolled in the Healthy Connections grant with the technical logistics of mobile apps and enrollment.
  • Co-facilitate group therapy sessions and provide coverage for as needed for outpatient counseling staff for PTO and Vacation time.
  • Perform all required record keeping and paperwork related to treatment and work at Meta House.
  • Assisting in preparing group materials as needed for AODA groups.
  • Client outreach consisting on-site crisis intervention and client engagement through phone calls and post cards.
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing skills when working with clients. Will be trained as needed.

Marginal Functions of the Job

  • Other duties will be periodically or permanently assigned. This may include small caseload when trained and licensed, outpatient admission assessments, and providing AODA education.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • SAC-IT
  • Bachelors degree in Social Work or Counseling; master’s enrollment preferred
  • Professional License appropriate for degree
  • Driver’s license, safe driving record, and proof of vehicle insurance

  • Able to work cooperatively with other team members and agencies
  • Very strong organizational and planning skills
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural setting
  • Able to integrate mental health treatment into AODA treatment
  • Able to understand and navigate insurance systems
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, and other applications

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Able to negotiate the indoors including stairs (Residential and Housing)
  • Able to tolerate occasional hot days with no air conditioning
  • Able to hear and talk with clients
  • Able to document in client charts using electronic health records

Reports to: Lead AODA Counselor.
