Minutes approved
- Review of Comm Gen related to Award Notification and Total Loan Indebtedness – Jeff Jacobs
If we are looking at putting data elements into the loan indebtedness notification then we should also be able to put it in the award notification because it is the same thing. We are providing data elements in a notification. We either need to put data elements in all of our notifications or not (email notification).
Think about this, discuss with your CIO, and this topic will be discussed at a later meeting. Crystal will email the regulatory information for us to include in our thought process. We may need to discuss providing the data elements to the CIO council in case they have any concern with it.
- Citizenship definition guidelines Campus user groups – Betty/Katie
The campus user group is working on definitions to be standard within the university system for all the schools and the draft was shared with everyone. Please review the document. If you have any concerns about the definitions or explanation, please bring it to the campus user group attention
Crystal – J treaty has to do with citizenship and how it is coded in the system. Canadian citizen’s students and because of the J treaty they are eligible for federal financial aid. Crystal will send out the treaty information from the handbook and will be a good document to reference.
- New representative for Campus Community User group – 4 year/2-year school - Betty
The meetings are conference calls and are once a month. The majority of items this group has dealt with are registrar issues or admissions issues. The meetings are held the second Thursday of every month and takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Also discuss new items being done within the system and how does it impact the different areas. It would be nice if there were set terms for proper rotation. Someone from the financial aid offices would need to be on the committee. Betty would like to get off of this committee within the next few months.
- Shopping Sheet – Crystal
There are some term based setup associated with the shopping sheet which means it is not running correctly or at all at some schools. We do need shopping sheets assigned to students, especially federal aid applicants. We are looking at that particular process to see if we can remove the term based set up. Either use their current career or future career. NDSU & BSC would like to take the term based setup off. No opposition. Crystal will move forward with the development and will use the minimum term. Assign the shopping sheet to their most recent career.
Additions
Default Rate – Brenda Zastoupil
A committee that looks at joint shared services and they are looking at the default rate and how it shifting over the last three years and rising.
Why rates might be going up?
Shift from the 2 to 3 year default rate, preferred lender lists, moving towards 100% direct lending, dealing with national servicers vs local servicers, consolidation, national default rate has gone up (not just a North Dakota issue). National average is 11.8% and NDUS schools is at 9.0%.
This will be used for talking points for Tammy Dolan.
