"When you look at the crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then. When you look at the Sacred Host, you understand how much Jesus loves you now.”

Blessed Mother Teresa

We are blessed here at St. Vincent de Paul Church to have an active and dedicated Eucharistic Adoration Society. Our membership is open to all who wish to spend time in prayer in our Blessed Sacrament chapel. As Our Lord Jesus continually calls all of us to Himself, we encourage you to respond and join us by committing yourself to spend one hour a week before the Blessed Sacrament.

Choosing the better part

What would you do if Jesus walked the earth today?

Would you travel to be in His physical presence? Spare no expense? Jesus makes it even easier for you to be with Him. He exists in the Eucharist. Would you consider volunteering to spend one hour a week in prayer and adoration before our Lord and our God, really and truly present in the Blessed Sacrament? Or if a weekly hour is not possible, share responsibility for a weekly hour with a few others so maybe you spend one or two hours a month?

Mother Teresa said “When you look at the crucifix you see how much Jesus loved you then. When you look at the Sacred Host you see how much Jesus loves you now.” It was not enough for Jesus to humble Himself to become man and die for us. He still humbles Himself by becoming bread.

The power of prayer was so important to her that she spent at least one holy hour a day before the Blessed Sacrament. And if she was busy, she spent more time than normal.

As Religious Instructors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, Knights of Columbus, Life Teens, Pro-Life Activists, Musicians, Men’s Fellowshippers, parents, family members, homemakers, gardeners, hikers, bicyclists, full-time workers, students, priests, doctors, lawyers, cooks, clerks, waiters, TV watchers, computer users, game players, and more,

Surely we all have too much to do.

Only with God’s help will we make progress in our lives; temporal matters or spiritual, moral or physical, personal or social.

In Mark Chapter 6 as the apostles were in distress in the boat, they saw Jesus walking on water and Mark tells us that Jesus meant to pass them by. They called out to Him. Only then did Jesus come and bring peace to the storm. So it is in our lives.

Jesus waits for us.

St. Francis de Sales tells us “so much is accomplished by prayer that we cannot even fathom it.” Many great saints spent time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. We can too. If you have not spent time before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, dare yourself to do so. Try it and

find more peace than you have now; more motivation; more fervor; more time.

Monday 9AM through Wed 7AM is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament when our Eucharistic Lord is exposed in the Monstrance. Come anytime even if not scheduled. This is where the ministry comes in. Adoration Society members ensure adorers are present for all hours of Exposition. Without them, we cannot have Exposition. So, we need you. By scheduling a holy hour, you have a weekly audience with God and you make Him available to other souls as well.

If spending one hour per week or sharing responsibility for an hour before the Blessed Sacrament is too much of a hardship for you, or just does not appeal to you, or if you think that it is a waste of time, pray that God changes this. Ask Him to make you love Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength so that there is nothing you would rather do than be with Him. You might even lovingly complain to Him that you have too much work or that others need to do something more than only spend time in adoration.

Consider the following lesson from Scripture.

“As they continued their journey he entered a villagewhere a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary (who) sat beside the Lordat his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me bymyself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.’ The Lord said to her in reply, ’Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken away from her.’(Luke 10:38-42 NAB)

We should not be busied and troubled about so many things.

Eucharistic Adoration is the beTter part and we should not forsake it.
