Could you be a London LegalSupport Trust intern in 2017?
We are looking for London Legal Walk Interns(voluntary position)
Either: 1 day per week from July to end of September
Or 2/3 days per week for a shorter period - min. 4 weeks
Who are we?
The London Legal Support Trust (LLST) raises funds, mostlyfrom the legal profession,to support free legal advice centres (Law Centres and similar agencies) in London and the South East as well as helping them to improve and become more sustainable.
We hold a number of large scale fundraising events throughout the year, with our main eventbeingthe London Legal Walkwhich takes place annually in May.In 2016 over 10,000 people took part and raised £740,000 to support access to justice.In 2017 the London Legal Walk grew to 12,000 walkers and is predicted to raise £800,000.
Our next big events coming up include the British 10k, Survival of the Fittest and Walk the Thames. The need for funding for free legal advice agencies is very pressing and we need to makesure thatthese eventsareeven more successful than ever beforeand that we are involving as many people as possible.
To achieve this we need more help!
The roleavailable
We need bright and dedicated individuals to assist with:
Fundraising and marketing
- Registering new teamsand individuals in our events(from law firms, chambers, law schools and charities).
- Helping publicise who is currently taking part and encouragingmore people, law firms, chambers and others to get involved in our work.
- Developing new fundraising materials.
- Updating and maintaining our contact records.
Online Media
- Keeping our website up to date
- Helping boost our events through increasing our presence on Twitter, Facebook and through other social media channels
- Ensuring we spread the publicity for these events as widely as possible
Corporate Partnerships
- Helping develop links with companies interested in sponsorship or working with LLST to help the legal advice sector
- Helping develop initiatives to help save the legal advice sector money (i.e. such as the stationery buying consortium LLST set up)
Charity Administration
- Helping with the day to day challenges of running a small charity e.g. some basic book-keeping, systems etc. (all training provided)
To manage any ad hoc projects and undertake any other duties within the remit of the role as requested.
Skills and qualities you will need:
- IT literacy i.e. ability to use MS Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet
- Attention to detail, an ability to produce accurate work
- High standard of written and spoken English
- Ability to draft own correspondence
- Excellent communication skills across a wide range of audiences (i.e.
maintaining LLST’s reputation when contacting law firms, courts, press and sponsors). - Motivation, enthusiasm and initiative
- Professional working manner
- An organised approach to tasks
- Relevant previous experience preferred
- Interest in and commitment to free legal advice charities
- Reliable (able to commit to one day per week)
- Punctual
Location:Office based in central London(Chancery Lane)
This internship is a fantastic opportunity to help a small but influential charity that works closely with all parts of the legal profession.We will offer on the job training, practical skills and experience of both the charity sector and within the legal profession whilst hopefully having fun and taking pride in having been part of such a positive effort for the wider community.
