Students must meet TSI requirements identified by the Alamo Colleges prior to enrollment in dual credit courses. Advanced Placement courses are available to prepare students for rigorous college coursework. Students will have the opportunity to earn their cosmetology license prior to graduating from high school. All students will participate in UIL, student leadership and service opportunities while in high school.

Course / Course Description
Introduction to Cosmetology / In Introduction to Cosmetology, students explore careers in the cosmetology industry. To prepare for success, students gain academic and technical knowledge and skills relative to the industry. Students may begin to earn hours toward state licensing requirements.
Cosmetology I / In Cosmetology I, students coordinate integration of academic, career and technical knowledge and skills in a laboratory-based, job-specific training course for employment in cosmetology careers. Instruction includes sterilization and sanitation procedures, hair care, nail care, skin care and meets the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation requirements for licensure upon passing the state examination. Analysis of career opportunities, requirements, expectations, and development of workplace skills are included.
Cosmetology II DC / In Cosmetology II, students demonstrate proficiency in academic, technical, and practical knowledge and skills. Content provides the occupational skills required for licensure. Instruction includes advanced training in professional standards/employability skills; Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) rules and regulations; use of tools, equipment, technologies and materials; and practical skills.
Practicum and Extended Practicum in Human Services DC / Practicum and Extended Practicum Courses in Human Services provide background knowledge and occupation-specific training in consumer services, early childhood development and services, counseling and mental health services, and family and community-services careers. Practicum courses meet the occupational preparation needs and interests of students and are based on the knowledge and skills selected from two or more courses in a coherent sequence in the human services cluster.
Anatomy & Physiology / Students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students study a variety of topics, including the structure and function of the human body and the interaction of the body systems for maintaining homeostasis. Students must pass safety test with 100% mastery. To receive credit in science, students must meet the 40% laboratory and fieldwork requirement.
Business Management / Students analyze the primary functions of management and leadership, which are planning, organizing, staffing, directing or leading, and controlling. Topics incorporate social responsibility of business and industry. Students develop a foundation in the economic, financial, technological, international, social, and ethical aspects of business to become competent managers, employees, and entrepreneurs. Students incorporate a broad base of knowledge that includes legal, managerial, marketing, financial, ethical, and international dimensions of business to make appropriate management decisions.
Entrepreneurship / Students gain knowledge and skills needed to become an entrepreneur. Students learn how to begin and operate a business. Students analyze a business opportunity, prepare a business plan, determine feasibility of an idea using research, and develop a plan to organize and promote the business, its products and services. In addition, students understand the capital required, the return on investment desired, and the potential for profit. Students learn marketing, merchandising and customer service skills. This course is coordinated with a school-based enterprise (salon).
