Officer Jiminez gave crime update

Manager Denver Department of Environmental Health made a presentation on what his dept. does:

Deal with many segments including health/wellness

5 Divisions/150ppl

Most common deaths in Colorado- Suicide, Diabetes, Flu/Pneumonia, Accidents, Homicide

Department focuses on research and promoting good health

1/5 people in Colorado do not have insurance

Obesity is a big health problem

¼ obese in Colorado

½ overweight in Colorado

1/7 kids obese in Colorado

¼ kids overweight in Colorado

How do we change these behaviors?
Prescription Drugs- fastest growing problem

Dispose of old with children/teens in house

Energy Conservation

Julie Carlton from the Dept. of Env. Health to visit at February meeting- Denver Energy Challenge

Audits, rebates, ways to improve efficiency

Many businesses in city have found this to improve and costs going down

Doug talked about other areas of his dept: Animal Care/Control(Coyotes, Goats, Chicken, Fox, Dogs,Cats)

Medical Examiner Office- people and animals

Health Regulations- houses, restaurants, childcare agencies, animals, etc.

Dogs/Cats need liscense
