Position Objective
As a member of the ECMS Childcare team provide an appropriate developmental and enriching program for children from 0-6 years in the childcare centre which maximises opportunities for them to develop to their full potential. Build trust with families by respecting diversity and connecting to individual cultural needs.
Demonstrate energy and commitment to the ECMS vision working with colleagues in a unified and cooperative manner based on trust, mutual respect and support, focusing on the care and education of children from the ages of 0-6 years.
Job Summary
To develop in consultation with parents and staff, an educational program that is appropriate to the individual developmental needs and interests of children
Duties and responsibilities
- To perform at all times in accordance with the Education & Care Services National Law Act 2010, Education & Care Services National Regulations 2011, National Quality Standards and ECMS policies and procedures;
- To undertake all responsibilities associated with the role of Certified Supervisorand to manage the Centre in the absence of aNominated Supervisorin accordance with the Education & Care Services Act 2010 and Regulations 2011 where required;
- Work as a member of the team with the direction and support of theCentre Co-ordinator, to provide a childorientated and developmental play based program which isin accordance with Education & Care Services National Law Act 2010, Education & Care Services National Regulations 2011 and incorporates the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework;
- Lead the delivery of quality early childhood education and care in accordance with ECMS Vision and Values, Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework, National Quality Standards andrelevant regulatory requirements;
- Guide and support level 3Educator with programming, and implementation of a productive but flexible room routine;
- Assist in ensuring the maintenance of a safe, attractive and welcoming environment for both families and children;
- Actively involve and be inclusive of all children and their families, regardless of age, gender, disability, family unit and cultural background;
- Connect and be responsive to the cultural, socio-economic and individual needs of the children and their families and work creatively to meet diverse needs as appropriate;
- Take all reasonable care for own health and safety and the health and safety of colleagues by ensuring correct safety practices are followed, for example when lifting children, equipment etc, nappy changing, food handling etc.;
- Invite and encourage families to be involved in their child’s day;
- Follow all OH&S procedure and ensure that OH&S hazards are identified and addressed or raised immediately to ensure the safety and welfare of all children, staff and visitors to the service;
- Implement emergency evacuation and safety plans and procedures as instructed;Check and complete daily safety checklists and documents, including changes to be made;
- Undertake incident reporting in a timely manner in accordance with ECMS policies and procedures;
- Engage, participate and contribute in staff meetings, training and development sessions, assisting with day-to-day running of the Room; and
- Ensure confidentiality of information regarding children, staff and families.
Organisational relationships
Internal:
As part of the team you will be required to build and maintain positive communication and relationships with all families, children, ECMS staff, students and the general public visiting the Centre.

Providefamilies with information on the programs for their children and provide support and guidance as required.
Encourage parentinvolvement in the programs and the Centre.
Liaise with parents on child development and show respect to families regarding their own child rearing practices and beliefs.
External:
Work in partnership and alongside the community and other resource agencies to provide support and educate children.
Scope of action/authorities
ECMS policies and procedures provide guidance for day to day operations and decision making. All matters outside established ECMS policies and guidelines that have (but not limited to) regulatory, financial, or industrial implication requires advice to be sought from your line manager or in their absence a member of the ECMS Management Team.
The position directly impacts service delivery and ECMS’ capacity to deliver quality childcare to all children and families from all cultural backgrounds and communities.
Essential Skills and Competencies
Job knowledge and skills
-A sound knowledge of Education & Care Services National Law Act 2010, Education & Care Services National Regulations 2011 and VictorianEarly Years Learning and Development Framework;
-Ability to provide and deliver a quality program for all children;
-Ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergency/safety issues;
-Ability to work unsupervised, and plan and organise one’s own work tasks;
-Ability to assess the health and wellbeing of children on a daily basis (within the limits of qualifications) and recommend appropriate action;
-Ability to lead, direct, supervise, train and assess staff;
-A commitment to continuous improvement, responsiveness to feedback and flexible to change; and
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal Skills
-Commitment and enthusiasm for providing quality care for children;
-Excellent interpersonal skills in all dealings with children, families and staff, e.g. courtesy, respect, managing concerns, issues and conflict;
-Self-motivated, able to understand requirements quickly and work efficiently to complete tasks;
-Able to work in a co-operative manner and be flexible with the changing needs of the individual room, children or centre; and
-Able to build and foster co-operative team work relationships.
Education:Diploma in Children’s Services or equivalent – appropriate for recognition as aChildren’s Services employee level 4 (in accord with the Children’s Services Award);
Essential requirements:
Must hold a supervisor certificate that allows a person to be a Certified Supervisor placed in day-to-day charge of an Approved Service;
Current Working with Children’s check demonstrating suitability for employment in a children’s service prior to commencement; and
First Aid Qualifications, CPR, Anaphylaxis and Asthma to comply with Education & Care Services National Regulations 2011.
The above certifications are required to be kept up-to-date as a condition of your ongoing employment.
Experience:
Has experience working in Early Childhood Services and is able to demonstrate the ability to provide active, effective and efficient care for children; showing anunderstanding of the needs and development of young children and issues which may arise for parents and families in raising children.
Has experience with OH&S legislation and requirements, particularly inthe Early ChildhoodSector.
