Overall purpose of job:
Work with children and young people, some who will be identified as overweight or obese, and deliver opportunities and motivation with the aim of empowering and inspiring them to live fulfilled lives
Post holders will be expected to be flexible in undertaking the duties and responsibilities attached to their post and may be asked to perform other duties, which reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility
Main responsibilities:
1.To deliver innovative approaches to increase physical activity and tackle childhood obesity with young people and families, including the organisation and promotion of specific programmes.
2. To plan and deliver programmes of physical activity and health for young people and families including those with disabilities in locations throughout North Lincolnshire.
3.To deliver and support the development of physical activity and health programmes including the Healthy Schools Programme.
4.To deliver physical activity and health activities to children and their families on a 1-to-1 basis.
5.To identify barriers to participation and implement sessions and activities personalised to individual families taking into account time, location, equipment and family requirements, etc.
6. To plan and prepare session plans that enable the progression and development of the participants involved.
7.To work with a range of key organisations supporting the development of health and physical activity opportunities.
8.To develop a range of other innovative programmes as directed by the North Lincs School Sports Network.
9.To promote identified physical activity and wellbeing initiatives, seeking local and/or regional support by liaising with key individuals within health, education, recreation or other community organisations and businesses.
10.To ensure that effective evaluation mechanisms are implemented to measure the success of delivered programmes.
11.To ensure the health, safety and welfare of young people engaged in the programme ensuring all safeguarding concerns are reported.
12.To maintain a high level of appropriate skills and knowledge by undertaking continuing professional development and training
13.To be responsible for the transportation, correct use and safe keeping of sports equipment to various locations within North Lincolnshire.

Knowledge, skill and experience:
Experience
●Experience of working with children and young people in play/sports activities.
●Experience of coaching or sports leadership.
●Experience of planning and delivering sport and physical activity sessions
●Experience of working as part of a team
Knowledge
●Understanding of the benefits of physical activity in achieving healthier lifestyles.
●Awareness of programmes to increase physical activity of young people.
●Awareness of safeguarding procedures in working with children and young people.
Skills
●Ability to communicate clearly using a number of mediums (i.e. written, verbal, email, presentation).
●Ability to organise successful programmes that motivate and enthuse children and young people to be more active.
●Ability to act on own initiative
●A current First Aid qualification.
●Ability to deliver sports coaching to a range of audiences.
●Ability to prioritise workload within a structured work programme.
●A genuine interest in working with children/young people.
●Available to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
●Ability to transport self effectively across North Lincolnshire
●Accurate and effective administrative skills including IT literacy
●Be of a caring nature with good interpersonal skills
●Have a drive for excellence and ability to deliver above expectation
Creativity and innovation:
The post holder will carry out consultation and find innovative solutions to engage and increase the physical activity levels of young people.
They must be creative in the approach they take to the planning and delivery of sessions and programmes on a daily basis.
They must be creative in the way they produce flyers, posters and evaluation materials to ensure the success of a project.
Contacts and relationships:
This person will be working with young people on a daily basis.
They will build relationships with targeted young people and their parents through delivery of their weekly programme, the will have a responsibility to report any concerns regarding safeguarding through the schools and LA process.
This role will have the responsibility to build professional working relationships with parents, carers, schools and other key partners.

Decision making:
This role will make day to day decisions regarding the delivery of new programmes this will then be approved in consultation with the Physical Activity and Healthy Weight Coordinator and Wellbeing Manager
They may have to make their own on the spot decisions when delivering the sessions in schools and/or family homes regarding the suitability of the activity, and adapting so all can take part. This may be on a daily basis. Consequences of them not doing this correctly could effect the wellbeing of participants, poor delivery and consequently unsuccessful programmes, which could have an impact on reputation.
Responsibility for resources:
The post is responsible for:
Safe use and security of sports equipment, up to approx. £500
Safe use and security of necessary IT equipment such as Laptop and Mobile Phone - approx £400 that is used across North Lincolnshire at different sites.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work demands:
This role is varied in the overall look of what will be delivered, however the main aim will remain the same. The programme may change in response to the needs of the young people and their families. There will be specific deadlines/targets set by the line manager which may change in response to the needs of the young people.
Physical demands:
This person must be a role model for getting young people active and adopting healthy choices. Work will require normal physical effort with periods of transporting equipment and delivering sessions. The role will involve the person being active, for examples, giving demonstrations of activities.
Working conditions:
Delivery work may take place in schools, usually halls, leisure facilities or local play areas. It may also take place in some potential disagreeable conditions i.e. within some family homes. During the planning/developing and monitoring of programmes this will take place in office space in Baysgarth School.
Sessions may take place outdoors but only in fair weather to ensure the safety of participants.

Work context:
●The role is demanding but good supervision and support structures are in place.
●The role will require some lone working.
●Weekend/evening and times of work will be flexible to meet the demands of the role
●Working with children, the post-holder may be subject to challenging behaviour
●Some work will involve working with vulnerable young people, whose backgrounds may be upsetting
