CCS/TRAX-Cobol Debugger for MPE-iX - Revision 2.7

Software Update Notice

August 1999

Corporate Computer Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce that the 2.7 release of CCS/Trax-Cobol, the Cobol Debugger for MPE-iX, is now available. The new release tape is enclosed in this package. To install the new release on your system, please follow the installation instructions found in the TRAX-Cobol Reference Manual or the Quick Start guide.

The following pages detail the changes to CCS/Trax-Cobol since the 2.6.00 version.

Part 1 – Notes

·  This Software Update Notice is included on all release tapes. Feel free to copy it for distribution to all TRAX/Cobol users at your site.

·  As repairs are made and features added to the TRAX/Cobol product, these changes are included on all tapes shipped. In this way, we do not knowingly distribute software that has bugs in it. Each time a change is made to the product, the patch level is incremented. For example, this is release 2.7, patch level 0 (2.7.00). The first time a change is made, the patch level will be changed to 1 (2.7.01). A list of all changes made to the base release (2.7.00) is contained in the file CHANGES.PUB.TCXBXL.

Part 2 - Enhancements

Contact information added to start-up messages.

Since there was no easy way for a user to find out how to contact CCS, the telephone, fax and email information was added to the messages displayed by TRAX on start-up.

Part 3 - Repairs

TRAX reports that a file is not a valid program file, when in fact the file is a valid NMPRG file.

The problem was that the 4.18 version of the Cobol compiler can generate a different program startup sequence than had previously ever existed. Some customers will be getting this version of the compiler with their 5.5 copy of MPE-iX. The code has been updated to recognize this new code sequence and the messaging has been updated to better inform the user of the situation and the workaround. The workaround is to use the -B startup flag to tell TRAX where to set the initial breakpoint.

(Reported by Mercury Insur. Group)

When using the Watch Window, if there were more variables specified to watch then there were lines in the window, TRAX "packed" the last line of the window. This was not the most efficient packing method, and some variables could be unnecessarily lost from the display.

Now when there are more variables then lines in the Watch Window, TRAX will pack starting with the first line. Also, now when packing, if either an identifier name or value string will wrap past the end of the current line, this name or string will start on a new line.

The WV [@,*] OFF commands didn't work. The Watch Window display was not cleared.

The identifier list was being cleared, but the WW display was only being cleared below the last line with an identifier on it. Now all the lines of the Watch Window are cleared.
