Tournament Rules

  1. All USA HockeyRules apply unless otherwise noted in this document.
  1. Team representatives must check in at the registration desk one (1) hour prior to their first game.Kelly and Alex, tournament directors, will be housed at NESC. If your first game is NOT as NESC, you must still go to NESC to talk to one of Alex or Kelly to discuss your roster and changes and check in your team, no exceptions. There are no super early games at other venues so this will not be a problem. Also, you can see us both on Thursday if you like at NESC.
  1. Teams must be available to play up totwenty (20) minutes prior to regular scheduled game times.
  1. Game times: All round robin games will consist of twotwenty three (23) minute stop time periods. The last ten minutes (10) of a game will be running time when there is a four (4) goal difference or more. Timing will revert to stop time if the difference is reduced to less than 3 goals.For any playoff games on Saturday and Sunday the regulation game time is adjusted to two twenty two minute (22) stop time periods to accommodate overtime and shootouts to break ties. Game slots for Monday playoff games are one (1) hour and those games will be one thirty (30)minute stop period.There will be oneno time-outs allowed in any games.
  1. Flooding Schedules:Flooding will take place between every game. Tournament organizers reserve the right to adjust flood schedules if games start to run more than 15 minutes behind schedule.
  1. Overtime: There will be no overtime inany round robin game or consolation game. Ties in the round robin will be recorded as such in the standings. In the event of a tie in the playoff games,semi-finals and finals there will be overtime.Overtime will be sudden death, three (3) minutes of three on three. No rest between regulation and overtime and no switching of ends. If after overtime the game remains tied, the tie will be broken via a shootout.
    In the case of penalties during overtime, no team shall go down to less than 3 skaters and the non-penalized team will add a player if required (3 on 3 becomes 4 on 3) until the first stoppage in play after the penalty has been served. Penalties still running at the end of regulation will carry over into the overtime.
  1. Shootouts: In the case a game is still tied after the threeon three overtime, a shootout will take place. The shootout will start right away and will be sudden death. One player from each team will start at center ice and skate in on the opposing goalie. Shootout on each goalie will take place simultaneously. Shooters cannot repeat until all skaters of a team have taken a shootout attempt. Any player serving a penalty that has not expired by the end of overtime play may not participate in the shootout.
  1. Minor penalties will be two(2) minutes. Penalties that are being served at the end of the third period will continue until completion during overtime if applicable.
  1. Suspension policy. Fighting is ejection from event. Major penalties will be decided by Tournament directors and referees. Coaches being thrown out during a game will face review and may be ejected from the tournament. There will not be leniency for this type of behavior in a summer showcase. Parents that are causing disturbances in the stands will also be asked to exit venue for the remaining portion of the weekend.
  1. No body-checking in any division.
  1. The center redline will only be in effect for icing infractions. (No center red line for 2 line passes).
  1. Thehome team will wear their light colored sweaters.
  1. General Divisional Rules: The tournament is a four game guarantee event. All teams in every division will play three round robin games and at least one post round robin game. Upon the completion of the round robin, all teams are seeded based on points, follow by order of tie-breakers. With the exception of the AAA division, the final ranking will be across ALL teams in the division. In the AAA division, teams are allocated into four pools. Seeding in the AAA division will be done within each pools.

Playoffs:Overall 170 of the 184 teams in the event will advance to either the A or B playoffs after the round robin. The other 14 teams will play a final consolation game as their fourth game. Both the A-playoffs and the B-playoffs will play to a final winner in single game elimination bracket style format. There is NO re-seeding after each play-off round. The higher seeded team will be the designated home team in all play-off games.
The consolation game is applicable to the following 14 teams: Four (4) teams in the College division, Two (2) teams in the “99-2000” Division and Eight (8) teams in the AAA division. Detailed format for each division can be found in the divisional specific rules. There will be an A-playoff and B-playoff series in the following divisions as follows: College (16 and 8), Futures AAA (32 and 32), Futures AA (16 and 8) and the 99-2000 (16 and 16). The 2001 and 2002 divisions have a single playoff system for All teams in those divisions.
Divisional Specific Formats:

  1. Divisional Format - 2002: The 2002 division consists of a ten (10) team field. Each team will play three round robin games, one game Friday and two games Saturday.All teams advance to the playoffs that start on Sunday.The play-off bracket will be seeded based on rankings after the round robin.
    Playoffs:The top six teams after the round robin advance directly to the quarter finals Sunday afternoon. Teams ranked seven through ten will play in an elimination game Sunday morning, with the two winners advancing to the quarter finals. The quarter final winners advance to the semifinals. The semifinals and final will take place on Monday. The teams in the final could play as many as seven games.
  2. Divisional Format - 2001: The 2002 division consists of a sixteen (16) team field. Each team will play three round robin games, one game Friday and two games Saturday. All sixteen teams advance to the playoffs that start on Sunday morning.The play-off bracket will be seeded based on rankings after the round robin.
    Playoffs:All sixteen teams will play in the round of 16 play-offs Sunday morning. The winners to advance to the quarter finals Sunday afternoon. The semi-finals and finals will take place on Monday. The teams in the final could play as many as seven games.
  3. Divisional Format –99-2000: The 99-2000 division consists of a thirty four (34) team field. Each team will play three round robin games, one game Friday and two games Saturday. The top sixteen (16) teams advance to the A-playoffs. The next sixteen (16) teams advance to the B-playoffs. The remaining two teams will play a consolation game on Sunday morning.
    Playoffs: The round of 16 play-offs for both the A and B playoffs will take place Sunday morning. The winners to advance to the respective quarter finals Sunday afternoon. The semi-finals and finals for both the A and B playoffs will take place on Monday. The teams in the final could play as many as seven games.
  4. Divisional Format –Futures AA: The AA division consists of a twenty four (24) team field. Each team will play three round robin games, one game Friday and two games Saturday. The top sixteen (16) teams advance to the A-Playoffs. The other eight teams advance to the B-Playoffs quarter finals.
    Playoffs: The round of 16 for the A playoffs will take place Sunday morning. The winners to advance to the quarter finals later on Sunday. The quarter finals for the B playoffs will take place Sunday afternoon. The winners of all the quarterfinals advance to the semi-finals on Monday. The semi-finals and finals for both the A and B playoffs will take place on Monday. The teams in the final could play as many as seven games.
  5. Divisional Format –Futures AAA: The AAA division consists of a seventy two (72) team field. Teams are allocated into four pools of eighteen (18) teams each. Each team will play three round robin games within their pool. Teams in Pools A and B will play two games Friday and one game Saturday. Teams in Pools C and D will play one game Friday and two games Saturday. The top eight (8) teams in each pool advance to the A-playoffs. The next eight (8) teams in eachpool advance to the B-playoffs.The remaining two teams from each pool (8 teams in total) will play a consolation game either late Saturday or Sunday morning.
    Playoffs: The round of 32 play-offs for both the A and B playoffs will take place Sunday morning. The winners to advance to their respective round of 16 playoffs Sunday afternoon. Winners of the round of 16 in both the A and B playoffs to advance to their respective quarterfinals on Monday. The quarter finals, semi-finals and finalswill take place on Monday. The playoff brackets are structured such that teams from the same pool will not meet in the playoffs until the quarterfinals at the earliest. If the top seeds win out in every playoff game the semi-finals would consist of the four pool winners.The teams in the final could play as many as eight games.
  6. Divisional Format –College: The College division consists of a twenty eight (28) team field. Each team will play three round robin games. Half the field will play one game Thursday and two games Friday. The other half will play two games Friday and one game Saturday. The top sixteen (16) teams advance to the A-playoffs. The next eight (8) teams advance to the B-playoffs. The remaining four teams will play a consolation game Saturday evening.
    Playoffs: The round of 16 for the A playoffs and the quarterfinals for the B playoffs will both take place Saturday evening. The winners to advance to the A quarterfinals and the B semifinals both to take place on Sunday. The semifinals and finals for both the A and B playoffs will all take place on Sunday. The teams in the final could play as many as seven games.
  1. Two (2) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) point for a tie.
    There will be no overtime during round robin gamesor consolation games.
  2. Tie Breaker Rules:
    The following criteria will be used to break any ties between teams upon the completion of the round robin:

B)Number of Wins

C)Best record head to head if a tie after (a) and (b) and if more than 2 teams tied, all 3 MUST have played against each other and if not then we move onto part (d)

D)Goals for minus goals against (Plus / Minus ) with higher number winning

E)Goals for divided by goals for and goals against (GF) / (GF+GA) with higher decimal winning

F)Least goals against

G)Least Penalty Minutes

H)Coin Toss
