Report to HOD

Oct 18, 2015

Cornwall continues to struggle with low numbers. The chapter has met regularly all year taking only a brief break during HU. There is a strong working core in the chapter and the leadership has taken some measures to address low numbers. They have a singout at the IPM next week with others on deck. Chapter nights have included discussion of recruitment. There is energy.

Kingston is in search for a new director. Darrel will stay on until the show in October. He is moving to Toronto to pursue his music education. They continue to have strong leadership and will plan to fill this large void. Several events are already on the agenda. As well they have connections with a local school for involvement in in the show.

Nepean continues to struggle with low numbers but are meeting regularly. New songs are in the pipe. Energy is good among members. Chapter leadership has a vision for the chapter but need a plan.

Capital City Chorus (CCC)/Ottawa Chapter BHS Fall 2015 Summary Report

Ontario District House of Delegates Meeting 18 Oct 2015

Current Membership

Members: 79

Active: 57

CCC just performed great Matinee and Evening Shows with the Home Free Vocal Band on 19 Sep 2015 at an excellent new Ottawa venue, the Algonquin Commons Theatre. Big Chorus high from this performance and great audience response to the whole show.

CCC continues to focus on recruiting, community presence and improved singing. We continue providing financial support to our official charities Harmonize for Speech and Sing Canada Harmony and with Youth Outreach sponsorship. For the 2014 Christmas Show the Chorus welcomed guest singers as usual and several of the men have subsequently joined the Chorus. The same approach for Christmas 2015 is already attracting at least 10 singers. The Chorus is doing regular community performances and the "Papa's Friends" Gospel VLQ is very active all year on the Retirement/Seniors' Residence front. Chorus quartets delivered over 50 Singing Valentines.

We are still benefitting from last year’s highlight when forty Chorus members attended Harmony University Chorus College as described in our Fall 2014 and Spring 2015. We know we are singing better whenever we perform. The Chorus performed really well at our CCC Christmas Show 2014. On 29 Dec we sang in the Aviation and Space Museum at a re-enactment of the 100th anniversary of the Christmas Truce on the Western Front. We held a valuable Chapter Leadership Planning Day 17 Jan and another beneficial one on 20 Jun 2015. We have implemented some improvements and are focussed on doing more going forward.

The chorus performed well at several events in May and June as listed below and held another successful annual Youth Quartet Competition. 12 CCC Members went to the Ontario Quartetting Event 8 August and had a fun learning experience including up to 10 weekly group practices in Ottawa to prepare.

Capital City Chorus is blessed with an excellent Director and many talented Members with the variety of skills and dedication needed to make a successful Chapter and Chorus. We continue to work on improving singing and performance skills while maintaining an atmosphere of friendship and enjoyment which includes a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

There is good networking between the smaller chapters. I am a member of them all. All eastern chapters had involvement at HU and continue to show strengths and benefits of these activities.
