  • Would you like to be part of a Cork city and county based project that places value on the volunteer by providing excellent induction training,regular supervision, volunteer recognition nights and on-going training?

If so then this may be the volunteer opportunity you have been looking for!!!!

Le Chéile in Corkis looking for Male and Female adult volunteers to work with young people and their families. Theyoung people that are referred to the project are to some level involved in the Irish Youth Justice System. As a volunteer you will be trained to be involved in one or more of the following services:

-Young Person Mentoring:You will be supporting young people and helping them identify and develop their own skills. You willset goals with them and help with their engagement and motivation, doing all of this through a positive peer relationship.As a Volunteer, your support and guidance can make a real difference in the lives of these young people.For many of these young men and women they are lacking an older relative or friend that is a positive influence. We hope to train up specifically a small number of people from the West Cork area in addition to Cork city and suburbs.

-Parent Mentoring: You will be supporting a parent of a young person that is involved with the justice system. Volunteering in a supportive, respectful capacity, you will build a relationship with the parent, help them to set and achieve their own personal goals and goals for their family. You may also be asked to attend (in a supportive capacity) with a parent on the Parents Plus programme and/or help them to attend a Strengthening Families Programme.

-Group Work: Volunteers with some level of experience in group facilitation skills or working with the client group may train to be a co-facilitator with a staff member on the Parents Plus (Adolescent years) programme. These will be run in the evening time, commencing in late 2011.

-Group Work: Volunteers with some level of experience in group facilitation or with the client group may train to be a teen or parent facilitator on Strengthening Families Programmes commencing in September 2011. The locations will be Cork Southside and West Cork in September 2011 and Cork Northside and other areas of West Cork in early 2012. These programmes run in the evening time.

All volunteers will receive the same induction training initially and will then go on to specialise in the area that they are best suited to. Volunteers should note however that they may be expected to transfer between services as and when the needs arise.

NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARYFOR THE MENTORING OPPORTUNTIES

AS FULL INDUCTION AND TRAINING IS PROVIDED.

EXPERIENCE IS PREFERABLE IN RELATION TO THE GROUP WORK OPPORTUNITIES.

We are holding an Open Evening for Volunteers in Westview House, 17 Audley Place, St Patrick’s Hill, Corkon Wednesday 23rd March 2011 and an open afternoon on Wednesday, the 30th March 2011.

At this open evening/afternoon you will have an opportunity to meet with the Coordinator of the project in addition to current volunteers with Le Chéile.

23rd March (Wednesday night 6.30pm to 7.30pm) and 30th March 2011 (Wednesday afternoon 2.30pm to 3.30pm).
