Ilze Brakmane welcomed everybody to the first meeting of the new core group. It was a short meeting mainly to exchange ideas for the coming year.

1Activities in the year to come

Some of the topics proposed for further discussion were:

•How to make less active members more active

•How to exchange ideas and experience in a different form than the present tour-de-table at the Annual Meeting, for instance

-introduce an annual award for project of the year, e.g. by asking all members to send in descriptions of successful projects/activities and having the presentations, a vote and award ceremony at the annual meeting.

-exchange experience on the internet

Action: Next core group meeting should elaborate more on these ideas. There might already be some ideas as to criteria for the selection of the most interesting projects.

The secretariat will ask members to check up on contact details and provide missing information.

2Annual meeting 2006

The next annual meeting will take place in Riga, the date to be set so as not to collide with elections in Latvia in late September, the holiday period in the Commission and mobility week.

Action:Ilze Brakmane will propose a dateto be discussed at the next meeting

3Next core group meetings

The next core group meeting should take place after the topic of next year's green week is known. This is expected to be decided some time in October. It was suggested that the meeting be placed in either Copenhagen or Brussels.

Action:Ilze Brakmane will propose a date and place upon information from DG Environment as to the topic of Green Week 2006. The meeting should preferably take place at the beginning of December.
